THe new (non-furry) baby!

Look what arrived today!

Kubota L4600!

After years of thinking about it, we took the plunge. We decided against used because neither of us is capable of tinkering with any kind of engine. It'll be enough if we can actually look after the oil and filters on this!

Tiller, bucket, and forklift thingy attachment (which has some technical name I've forgotten!)

Our friend Jake came by this afternoon to see the tractor and give me some lessons. The dogs LOVE Jake, as you can see!

He also helped clear a space in the barn for the tractor (we had the beams and posts checked to make sure they can still support the weight of a tractor.) The former owner parked his tractor here too!

For the record, we did NOT steal that stop sign, and I don't condone stealing of signs! It was there when we arrived. Since the former owner was at one time the local fire chief, I'm pretty sure he didn't steal it either. :)

Okay, this is more fun than I ever imagined!! I even managed to use the bucket a bit. It will be hard to tear me away from this thing.

Don't worry, we still want horses. The tractor is sitting on the future horse paddock, which is being planted for us with horse-friendly vegetation this fall. We have to put in a lot of fencing too, and a shelter.

More pictures to come, I'm sure. Louise the kitty comes home tomorrow!

  3. Goodness, there is always so much going on around your place. Wait til I show Gary the tractor. He'll cry. Although, he will still love his oldie but goodie. I love that you are going to get horses. That will be a big step to take but I know you have put lots of thought into it and can't wait. LOUISE.....yah!

    1. The tractor will be useful for moving round bales, shovelling manure, you name it. :)

AH! A lady and her tractor. What's not to love? The photo could go in a calendar.

The thing would scare the daylights out of me now, but when I was younger it would have been a hoot! Looking forward to kitty photos.

    1. I rely on the roll bar and seatbelt (the roll bar was only down temporarily when these pics were taken of me!) I am still scared of inclines. :) I want to make sure I know how to drive the thing properly before I take on much of anything with it.

    1. I have a couple of young twin friends who grew up around here and keep calling it a "garden tractor." Yeah, you'd need a mighty big garden...

    1. We need fencing too. And I think a cute stable boy would be an excellent addition.

  12. May I ask for more details of what exactly you plan to actually do with that tractor, aside from sitting on it and looking... eh... frankly like you've never sat on a tractor before? :) ... I'm just thinking... not a lot of need for tractors to keep bees, or ducks, or chickens... Are you going to farm rather than rent out the land? Or just shift your own snow now? It looks like it probably cost more than my net worth too. I am impressed. But I bet the cheap little pussy cat will impress me more when she arrives next week.

    1. Oh contraire, mon chèr! I can use the bucket when I clean out the chicken and duck coops, instead of making 80 trips with a wheelbarrow. I can use the pallet fork attachment to move beehives. I'm gonna use that tiller on my veg garden, and to till land to plant stuff for my bees (like sweet clover.) Can use the tractor to move huge round bales of hay for horses. And so on! :) Oh, and grade the laneway after storms make it all rutted. Right now our neighbour does that for us out of the goodness of his heart.

And all the wood from the trees that need cutting down on our woodlot!

And of course I can do doughnuts and wheelies in the fields... :)
