Gobble gobble oink oink meow meow!

My friend Steve came for a visit the other day and took a pic of me holding Richard the turkey.

I got pink overalls to match the pigs!  Speaking of pigs, Steve took many fantastic photos of them and allowed me to share them here. Thanks Steve!

The only piglet adopted out thus far. When she is weaned at 8 weeks, she's going to live in piggy paradise. She'll have an older Berkshire sister who weighs 800 lbs and has her own house and yard!!! The Berkshire was a runt that was bottle-fed and is now is a beloved pet. She gets a birthday cake every year. This little porker is going to have a fine life.

And here I am whispering sweet nothings to the piglets, who just packing on the pounds! Or ounces, anyway.

This is Dahlia, as in Black Dahlia. :) I don't intend for her to meet the same end as her namesake.

She has a lttle pink heart on her nose!

Olivia!

Olivia, then Miss Pink Nose, who is now named Gertrude Swine, aka Gertie.

Gertie loves the dirt!

Gertie and her sister amuse themselves.

A big kiss on the nose for Uncle Steve!

Ophelia is still nursing but the piglets are also getting some solid food now.

They LOVE to play with cardboard.

They're really enjoying the great outdoors.

And remember Emerson? He was neutered and vaccinated on Wednesday and is doing great. Right now he's holed up in our spare bedroom. There will be gradual introductions to the rest of the household. He is such a sweet cat. The vet said he's between 6 and 8 months old, which is about what we guessed.

And for your viewing amusement, here's a video Steve took of us tormenting the turkeys. Carlton really is an ass whenever someone new shows up!

  1. Great photos. Love those piggies. Emerson is HOME and hopefully will integrate easily. I never realized how beautiful turkey tail feathers were. Deb

    1. He is quite happy in the guest room. The other kitties are getting to know him through the 1" gap under the door! Lots of paws being stuck in and out. :)

  2. You absolutely live in Cute Land : Dirty Gertie, pink-nosed Dahlia, but Emerson is a true heartbreaker.

My humans had Turkeys many years ago , the male was really tame and walked around loose on the farm :)

    1. I'd let these turkeys loose but the coyotes would take them down! :( They are quite the characters.

  5. I love Carlton's gobble, but what happened to his tail feathers to make them so sparse?

The piglets remain adorable -- and I continue to be surprised by just how human-like their eyes are.

    1. Ahab, I think he's been going through a moult. He has a lot of new feathers coming in. I just touched his tail the other day and three feathers fell out! THey usually don't go that easily unless there's a moult going on. Same with Richard. They should both look fantastic in about a month.

    1. Terri, the piglets are making it particularly difficult. I go down there to do one simple thing, then emerge an hour later because I've been sucked in by piglets!

    1. Carlton takes on any newcomer. He's such a jerk. He loves to sneak up from behind and give you a peck. But he backs right down if you stand up to him!

  9. Do they have turkey gobbling competitions as well as rooster crowing? Carlton thinks you're a natural.. x

    1. Aw, glad you like it! I just added a few more characters! Yes, Tristan is the product of some awful backyard breeder. He was sold to his previous owners through a pet shop in Quebec!
