Poultry happenings

As you can see, Jimette and Karène are not bothered at all by the slushy mess on the ground right now!

Neither is Sophie!

The chickens have been complaining that they aren't getting enough airtime on the blog...

Penelope and Emma settling down for the night. Emma left her nest in the barn today. :( I guess that  means no Christmas chicks for us! She was off it all day, then came into the coop at bedtime.

And have I even introduced our new rooster?

This is Zydeco, the Partridge Chantecler. He came to us as yet another prize from that rooster crowing contest back in September. I was offered two Partridge Chantecler  chicks in the spring, but then Laurie the breeder called me to ask if I wanted a rooster now.

He is the biggest chicken we have. He is also a TOTAL horn-dog. He especially likes to jump on poor tiny Georgiana. I was afraid he'd smother her the first time I saw THAT happen. He was with a bunch of roosters at Laurie's farm, and probably thinks he's died and gone to rooster heaven. Well HELLO, ladies!

I like seeing everyone settled in for the night... that window opens into the duck coop. Not sure if they enjoy that view or not!

And here is my lovely Charlotte!

And here's Cupcake, snuggled down in an old apple box...

Tina is is the filling in a Sherlock/Lord Gaga sandwich! Wait, that sounded a bit naughty.

I think Lord Gaga is Sherlock's Dad.

The line-up!

Good night, Charlotte!

  1. I'm speechless, and anyone who knows me knows how unusual that is.

  2. Pretty fancy looking birds. Neat idea to go out and take photos when they are roosting.

  7. Georgianna is my favorite hen of the bunch, so seeing her in the lineup was a treat. I'm so sorry to hear that she's been the target of Zydeco's predation!

    1. I knocked him off her again today. She is such a dignified little chicken. Very sweet!

  8. What a darling bunch of chickens you have. I love that they are each distinctive enough that you can name them. My turkeys are so similar that the only one I have named is the little late-comer with a limp who joined the flock. I call her Priscilla because it was around Thanksgiving. She walks much better now but holds the leg up when she's standing still so it must still hurt. Thanks for the visit to your chicken coop!

You'd think those little duck feet would get cold in the snow.

    1. I think that was done by the carpenters who installed our new bookcases. They backed a trailer up there.

  16. I love the chickens; they have so much personalty. I bet you're wishing you were in Tabago again with that slushy stuff. We're wet, but for now the snow is staying in the Cascades, which is okay by me. XOXO
