Donkey love, horse love, and thank you!

Thank you so much for all your kind words about Julius. I still well up every time I think about him. My animals mean so much to me, and it's really hard to lose them. Sometimes I just get very tired of losses in life... I know it's part of living and we all go through it, but some days I just want to say "F*ck that!" to loss. But then I read all the beautiful comments you left and it made me feel comforted. And Julius had a really good kitty life! It's just hard. We had salmon the other night, and I always used to save him a piece... sigh.

But on a happier note, I took a bunch of donkey selfies the other day!

I adore this animal! He is a gentle soul.

So we took a bunch of selfies, which cracked me up. He is so into it!

How can you not love that face?!

And the weekend before we lost Julius, Gordon and I spent three great days in horse camp, working on both riding and driving...

My horse Roo had a bruised foot (he is better now!) so I rode a beautiful horse named Leia who I have had many lessons on...

Gordon rode his new Fjord Sandy...

Everyone loves her at the stables. She has the sweetest personality. Someone said she's like Eeyore and she IS! I think they were practicing sidestepping here.

And she is AMAZING at driving!!

Four years old and such a pro!

Walked away from her in harness and she just STOOD there, being a good girl!

And now she has shoes, because we are taking her out with a sleigh this winter.

She is a very good girl for the farrier!

At camp, I also galloped for the first time, outside in a field with my instructor. It was terrifying and amazing and exhilarating. I have to say, I wish I could be on a horse every single day of my life. It makes me unspeakably happy. I am only sorry that I came to horseback riding later in life... I wish I'd started as a kid.

We all had the most amazing weekend! In December, we're signed up for two straight days of driving lessons.

Thank you again for your kind words about Julius. I was very touched. Hope you all have a great weekend, and to my American friends, have a very happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful to live in a peaceful country with my lovely husband, and to have so many beautiful animals in my life.

  1. You and the donkey are a couple of hams. The horse training looks like lots of fun. I believe if you work on training horses you gain much personal growth.

  2. I think my favorite is the second last one. God, he's cute. Thanks for the smile tonight.

  3. You donkey selfies just totally made my day! I also love that you are now horseback riding! The heck with not having done it as a child, you have a young spirit and it is wonderful that you are doing it now!
    (((hugs))) again about sweet Julius

  5. If you wake up one morning and Saul is gone...well...he'll be at MY house!!!

    I am in LOVE.

  6. I'm sorry, I missed the post about Julius. I'm so sorry for your loss. I understand how hard it is to lose a beloved pet, yet we wouldn't have wanted not to have had them in our lives. I hope you find comfort in the memories of this sweet boy.

The selfies with Saul are so fun, he's definitely a ham.

  7. Gotta love that face, he is a real cute donkey :)

  8. Awww Saul is such a ham for the camera. Great photos.

  9. I hope Blogspot lets this comment through. For some reason it wouldn't let me in when I tried before. *sigh* I'm so sorry about Julius. He was one sweet cat and lucky to have you both to care for him. Saul is just a superstar, that's all I can say!

  10. So sorry for your loss of Julius. I have an orange cat called Ruffy who is always a great comfort. Terrific donkey pics! I have a mule and love his half-ass side. Good to see Sandy working so well. It is fun to play with their haircuts. We are letting one of ours grow out. If she is registered I can look her up and see if we're related.

  11. Tell me, who is the donkey in those pics? :-)

  12. Oh that donkey is something else!

Thank you for all your comments, which I love to read!
