YUCK!

Yesterday was the hottest day I can ever remembering experiencing in a place I actually live. Our car said it was 39C (102.2F) in the shade in Cornwall yesterday, and the humidex was up at about 46C (115F.) It was disgusting! ANd in the midst of all that, we helped my mother-in-law put an offer in on a bungalow.  The offer was accepted and she is moving here (25 minutes from our place) from Toronto in September!

It was so gross yesterday that I was hosing down the chickens (gently.) Today is no picnic but it's less humid and the temperature is around 30C right now. No, this is not normal, and most people around here don't have air-coniditioned homes (we have central air, THANK GOD!)

Off to sweat at yoga...

And my friend Ronna did almost the same post as me today! :)

  1. It's been just about as hot here the past couple days. A front just came through this morning and cooled things off a bit, thank goodness. Stay cool!

39C in Cornwall??? .... Oh yeah, I keep forgetting you have places named after places over here. Similarly I can assure you it was not 39C in Glengarry (here) yesterday :) This North American continental heatwave has been making the news here. I can't stand the heat, so thank goodness I live in Scotland. 25C is roasting for me. Did you give Charlie Sheen a cold shower too (the Duck not the mad man)? Sounds like he could do with it (well, they both could)

  5. Oh dear, I couldn't be doing with that heat! It's been unseasonally cool here (17 degrees today) but it's forecast getting up to 22 in the next few days which is hot enough for me.

  6. I meant to ask, what is central air?
I've seen other people mention it too and presumed it was air conditioning.

  7. Yes, LBM, central air = central air conditioning, i.e. a big system that is linked in with your heating system. In our case, we have forced air oil or wood heat in winter. In sumer, the air conditioning unit pushes air through the same ductwork so that the cool air is throughout the house (as opposed to us putting window units in each room, or some sort of wall unit!) :) And 22C is my idea of a perfect summer temperature! NOT 39. :(

  8. David, glad it's cooled off a bit there. It was cooler and less humid here today but I still find 33C too much. Must be that British blood inherited from my parents.

Aileen, that's just as bad! It seems like extremes everywhere, even in Canada. The coasts are too cold/wet, the middle is too hot!

    Ronna, I prefer the former!

Andrew, we have the uglier, hotter Cornwall! I can't stand the heat either. I like to be outside and I don't want to be outside when it's like this. THere's a reason I love winter. ANd I tried to give Charlie Sheen a cold shower, but he was having none of it!

  9. It's hotter there than in the Mojave Desert! We only got up to 104 with 6% humidity today...this weather is srsly strange this year...

  11. Katnip, great, we were hotter than the Mojave Desert!!!

Lynn, I sprayed them lightly while they were in the run. THey did not seem to appreciate it and all went running, but then they returned and all sat around happily preening. (And they stopped panting and holding their wings out!) So I didn't drench them, and it seemed to help! I sprayed down some of the ground in their run, too, and they seemed to enjoy drinking from and exploring the puddles.
