Strawberry Mascarpone Tart

I made this for dessert on Canada Day (the red and white were very appropriate colours!) It's a Strawberry Mascarpone Tart, from the wonderful Creative Culinary blog:

Strawberries are in season now in Ontario and these ones were picked the day I made the tart. And mascarpone is always in season. Oh yummy! I don't have a real tart pan and so had to use a quiche pan, but no one cared. I made the butter pastry from scratch and it was quite tasty and flaky.

My only regret was that I made it for company, so I only got to eat a slice and a half. Next time I'll make it just for me and Gordon!

  2. WHY do people POST this stuff!?! They need to get busy and come to my house and BAKE. For me.

  3. I can feel the poundage return just looking at this and I don't care. You could challenge Martha Stewart with that dish.

  5. Yum!!! This looks so very good! I'm going to give it a try - now let me go to the creative Culinary Blog and get the recipe!!! And right after I eat this whole thing I'm going to have to go run like 10 thousand miles to work off all the calories. But, wait, it's all fruit, and fruit and veggies don't count, actually. So, yeah, I'll make a second one then instead of wasting time running outside! Thanks for the motivation!! :)

  9. Nat - I was drooling lost in a sugar-deprived craze over at Ronna's FB page, amazed and astounded and by her edible works of art, and who should I see but you and Gordon! And so I sent you a FB friend request. I'm Lynn on FB, the blonde chickie with the goofy big smile. Yes, I actually put some real photos of me on there, unlike on the blog where I hide behind the camera!

  12. What a great blog Barbara has! I've never been good at pastry. But she makes it look so easy. I'm going to try it and surprise MY company. Thank you mille fois, Knatolee.

  14. Barbara, it was so good and surprisingly easy, yet it looked impressive. You taught me well, grasshopper. No, wait, I'm the grasshopper. You're the sensei. nevermind. ;)

  15. Katnip Lounge, you know I'd Fedex a piece to you if I thought it would make in through customs intact!

Deb, I sure didn't care. I've been eating my face off all week and now I need an EXTREMELY long and vigorous walk. URP!

Paula, I will work on that! Food is good.

Razz, it's totally guilt-free. Strawberries are fruit. Mascarpone is from, uh, milk, the FRUIT OF THE COW. So it's fruit. Sugar comes from sugar cane, which is a plant and let's just call it FRUIT. Then of course there's the butter pastry, which is the FRUIT of the rare Butter Pastry Tree. See? It's all healthy! Eat up!

  16. Isobelle, it's worth the gallop to eastern Ontario!

CogDis, I will not be delivering you from temptation!

Wandering Cat, it was waaaaay too good to share. Next time I'm serving Pop Tarts for dessert and saving the tart for ME.

And LYnn, I'm glad you found me on FB!

Jams, that was a pun worthy of my dear departed father-in-law! :)

Claude, I made the pastry with the food processor. Just found a butter pastry recipe in my Canadian Living Cookbook. I have never been particularly good with pastry but I seem to do okay with this recipe. Or just buy a frozen pie shell!!!

LBM, scrummy it was. I should have stolen my mother-in-law's piece.

  18. Jannett, it was great and easy, and if you don't feel like making pastry you can use a frozen pie shell!
