Suet wars!

Jams wanted more bird pics. I have more bird pics! Welcome to...

THE SUET WARS!

Who knew Rose-breasted Grosbeaks loved suet so much? Not me! And boy, do they get territorial!

"Hello. I am KING of the SUET FEEDER!"

"May I join you?"

"I'm coming over!"

"Back off, Woodpecker!"

"Make me! Note my magnificently flared and very scary head feathers! Stoopid Grosbeak!"

"PISS OFF!"

"NO!"

"Beat it or you'll feel the wrath of my... suet-breath!"

"You don't scare me, Grosbeak."

"Fine then. I'll just pretend you're not there."

"OY! What the ...?!"

"Look, we're twins!"

"Yes. Twin PIGS."

"You've got a little something on your beak there, old chap!"

"Nom! Nomnomnomnomnom nommy nom!"

As you can see, there was quite the line-up. Through my window I could see a Bluejay, a male Downy Woodpecker, and a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak waiting a turn at the suet.

When the Grosbeaks left, the Bluejay finally got his chance!

"Those Grosbeaks don't like do share, do they?"

 "I'll be back!"

  3. Wow! It's like the plot of a Disney nature film, with pathos and anger and a homey moral, grosbeak-style. Fun stuff!

  4. Poor Mr. Jay - at my grandmas it was always the Jays fighting over the suet.
Do you make your own suet or do you buy it? We use to make ours.

  8. ROnna, they're still hanging around.

Ahab, it helps that I have a feeder next to my office window, and a bunch of show-off wild birds frequenting it!

Evlyn, I like it: Grosbeak Disney!

Wandering Cat, I buy suet now. I used to make it but now I'm too lazy, and I buy it at a good price at Ritchies Feed Mill in Ottawa.

CogDis, it's amazing what goes on in our garden.

Isobelle, I bet you would have eaten that suet too!

Jams, do you use suet feeders in England?
