Alex at rest

Alex, our tripod kitty, is very fond of our couch. A little too fond, which is why we are planning a sofa purchase in the near future. As you can see, he likes to balance himself perfectly on the back and soak up some rays...

"What? You're disturbing my beauty rest!"

His girlfriend Naomi prefers a dog bed!

  1. I can't believe how sprawled out Alex is on the back of the sofa. Holy comfortable!

  2. I spend a lot of time trying to get him to play and move. It's not pretty. :)

  3. Oh my God, he's cute. I love those big, tubby tabbies. The only thing that gets Sierra going is the cat-dancer. You can purchase one at any pet store. Hugs, Deb=^..^=x4

  4. ha ha ha! I think that missing leg just aids and abets his becoming one with the sofa.He couldn't get much flatter!

  5. Alex could really give lessons on how to relax. I'm inspired!

Love the photos but when I saw the title "Alex at rest" in the blogroll of another blog I follow, my heart plummeted! I thought something had happened to him and he was truly "at rest." So glad that's not the case! I know--I'm a weirdo. :)

Cats don't really know "their place" do they? They think everywhere is their place.

  9. Deb, it frustrates me. I have an array of cool cat toys on wands, and he'll chase them for a bit, then flops over and looks at me like I'm nuts. But I'm working on it. Really I want to switch them to a "raw" diet like I have my dogs on but I need to (a) convince Alex that this is good (the other two cats are on board) and (b) make sure I get the diet right, as it's more complex than feeding raw to dogs. Anyway, I'm frustrated. I don't want him to be fat. :(

  10. Katnip, he is WAY too comfy lounging around doing nothing. I think I'm going to strap him on harness and leash and start dragging him outside every day.

Evlyn, I wish I could relax like he does!

Jams, that's poetry: "comfort distilled", ahhhh!

TTPT, I had the same thought after I posted but was too lazy to change the title. Ooops. :)

Andrew, you have correctly analyzed the mind of a cat.

  11. Monorail cat!! That's his new name. I prefer it to "Fatlex".

John, he gives an excellent look of disdain if you refuse to pamper him adequately.

  12. It's funny how some cats have different tastes. You said you were going to change the cats' diet. I think all animals have their querks. Like my cat Jack - he only will eat seafood. I mean, come on, Jack, I love seafood, too, but there's life ouside of shrimp and fish. Jack is picky like that. And Shadow, she LOVES beef, but it always makes her puke. Any kind of beef - canned beef catfood, real steak, you name it, barfarama. but she loves it more than any other food to eat. My biggest issue with Shadow's weight is the dry cat food - it packs on the pounds for her. Jack has good kitty genetics and doesn't get fat like Shad. Please keep us informed about if you can do the the kitty diet switch. It's interesting.

  13. Every day I have to come home and take the shedding comb to the couch - my miss Peno likes to roll back and forth and leave as much fur as possible.

  14. Lynn, I'm going to get a meat grinder and take a stab at raw-feeding the cats (I already raw-feed my dogs.) I know Naomi and Julius will go for it, but Alex is the problem child. I finally got him running around the house tonight, chasing a laser pointer (being careful not to shine it near his eyes!)

Jack is like the kid who only eats peanut butter sandwiches three meals a day!

  15. Wandering Cat, I think I need a shedding comb for MY couch. Good idea!
