Young'uns in the garage!

Guess what's living in our garage?

Six little Sex Links chicks that we picked up on Wednesday!

They will grow up to be lovely reddish-hens like our Chicky and Anastasia. They are called Sex Links because they are a hybrid breed that can be sexed at hatching, so you know you are getting all hens (if that's what you want, and we do!)

The garage is a pigsty, yet again (everytime I clean it up, Gordon messes it up again!) But the fluffy baby is VERY VERY CUTE! Speaking of which, I should go out there and check on them and make sure they all made it through their second night! :)

I started my day with a fasting blood test, which is extremely high on my list of things to despise. I get very cranky when I can't eat,but especially cranky when I can't have a cuppa tea in the morning (just ask Gordon!) Things are better now that I've had some food and tea.

And don't forget to enter the HEN HAIKU contest! Two weeks left! Prizes! Adulation! Ten seconds of fame!

  1. That's great! Soon, we'll be enjoying tales of even more chickens. No doubt Errol Flynn, Beaker, and Lord Gaga will be happy to have young, beautiful hens in their flock.

  2. And you can be sure they will waste no time in despoiling them!!!

  3. They are soooo cute at this stage - like those fluffy toy chicks that you get in Easter baskets. BTW - I had one of those blood tests that required fasting just last week. I can't function until I have my first cuppa joe in the a.m. Don't know how I managed to drive to the clinic. So I sypmathize!

  4. Must have been the week for blogger blood testing. 12 hours is a long time, and then I had to sit there for another hour or so. Just awaiting results now (elevated cholestrol).

Miss the chickens. Sexlinks are usually such pleasant natured ladies too, and those wonderful brown shells!

    Enjoy.

  8. How old do they have to be before they will be recognizably different. We need to be ready to name them!

    Schnitzel, Curry, Marsala...

  9. Joséphine, Séraphine, Albertine, Césarine, Armandine, Bécassine......Of course, NOT! Just kidding. They're really cute.

  10. Evlyn, I sympathize with you too. I sometimes think I would pay just about anything to have a tech come to my house and take my blood when I'm still in bed in the morning!

  11. Musial Gardener, hope your cholesterol levels are good! I had that test too, but it was just routine. last year it was fine, so fingers crossed for this year!

We have six Sex-Links right now' we had more, but lost some to predators, mainly the brown ones! So we're upping the brown population in the coop. I really like them. THeir eggs are HUGE and they are very friendly girls. :)

  12. Jams, I know you'll come up with something good!

    LBM, they are really sweet!

Deb, you're pretty cute yourself. :)

Vanilla Bean, I believe it was Gordon who actually stuck the bag on my head. He'd had enough, ahahaha!

  13. HWB, LALALALA, I can't hear you! LALALALALA!

Claude, I think it's about time we had some classy French names in the coop, so I will work on that. Armandine is okay, Amandine is not! ;)

Aww. Cuties. Maybe when they're old enough to tell apart you should have a chick naming contest for the new girls.

  15. Hmm, I like the idea of a chick-naming contest!! I will wait until they are a bit older and I can tell them apart.

  16. Oh, oh Oh, how did I miss the arrival of the chicks!!!!! I see they're sex-links! I asked in a newer post what kind they are. ignore that question, please! I have been living in a bubble and don't know what going on around me, it seems!!!!! I love the babies! <3
