I beat my parents' record!

Guess where we were this weekend?

Hint: we were also there for Carnaval in February!

Yep. Québec City! We were there to celebrate our 20th anniversary, which is today. We ended up taking a calèche ride with the same driver (and his dog Winston!) that we had in February. It was a lot warmer this time around.

We had some truly amazing meals, thanks to the recommendations of my bloggy friend An Anglo in Québec, who coincidentally is currently visiting Tadoussac, where Gordon and I got engaged while watching whales from the beach in 1992! Check out the great photos on her blog.

We had a delicious brunch on Monday at Le Clocher Penché:

The restaurant is in an old bank, and is full of charm. Excellent food and coffee and chocolat chaud. The toilets are in the former bank vault!

Yep, 20 years ago today, we got hitched at Knox College Chapel at the University of Toronto campus...

Audrey and Lisa, my two oldest friends who are always there when I need them. I've been friends with Audrey since 1977, and Lisa since 1980. My Mum made all our dresses.

I love how everyone is looking at the camera but us! I wonder what we were saying to each other. I can't remember! Probably "What? What? I can't hear you over the bagpiper!!"

Us with Gordon's parents.

This photo always cracks us up. We all knew it was corny when we had it taken, but it was just so funny, stepping into that shaft of light in the chapel. It felt like a photo shoot for some inspiration book or something! :)

And yes, I have beaten my parents' record. They split up after 19 years of marriage. I am proud to have made it to the milestone of 20, and I hope we have at least 50 years more!

Happy anniversary to my favourite person on earth! Yes, that's you, Gordon.

More Québec shots to come....

  1. Happy Anniversary! That is a milestone; we'll celebrate 45 in September and like you, I wouldn't trade him for anything. I can see from your photos that you just knew you were meant to be together forever. And, I love the photo in the sunlit chapel! XOXO

    1. I think we'll come back for more in the fall. :) I don't mind missing out the crazy summer tourist season; I like hanging around the farm at this time of year anyway.

Looking forward to going back to Tadoussac. Also looking forward to trying out more of your restaurant recommendations on our next Q. C. trip! Thank you! :))

  5. I was so excited when I guess Rio! (Then you went and gave away the answer and it turned out I was wrong.)

Congratulations on 20 years; I also wish you at least 50 more. You were and still are a beauty. I had no idea you could do glamorous!

Your photos and memories made me smile!

Holy cow, if I had known you back then I'd have snatched you away and carried you off on a bus like Dustin Hoffman did in "The Graduate."

  10. Why would I come to think of following Lichtenberg quote?
The "second sight" possessed by the Highlanders in Scotland is actually a foreknowledge of future events. I believe they possess this gift because they don't wear trousers.
    :)
    All the best to you.
    The photos: a delight.

  13. My first observation is that you both (very sensibly) wore traditional wedding attire; such photos never age. I always feel sorry for grooms who wore flares, or wide lapeled suits; they look so dated after so little time.

Congratulations on your 20th, I'd put my money on another 20 at least.

    1. Oh, it's amazing how dated some photos look!! At least kilts are timeless, and my dress wasn't too Princess Di-esque or anything like that!!

Another 20 would be great! Thank you!!
