Gotcha Day

Last Thursday was our dogs' "Gotcha Day." They have now been with us for six years, longer than the five years they were with their previous owners. Sophie and Tristan are both 11 now. How time flies!

They are sad. Why? Because the farmer who owns the land next door harvested all his corn, which means the dogs can no longer steal it and spend their days farting in my office!  (I am definitely NOT sad about this!)

It was a lovely day when he did the harvesting...

And my beehives are all wrapped and ready for winter...

Tristan has slowed down quite a lot over the past six years, but Sophie hasn't. She just loves to run!

And run...

...and run...

...and run...

...and run...

...and run...

...and run...

...and run!

Happy girl!

Even the ducks were impressed!

  1. Love the running shots. I had to go back and thread them fast to feel the excitement. She's so sweet. "Happy Gotcha Day Sophie and Tristan." You sure 'picked' a great home.

    1. Our poor farmer is out harvesting corn in a snowstorm right now!! I think he's bound and determined to get that corn off tonight.

  6. I have a dear friend who has had several Labs and it's not just the corn that makes them gassy! Love the running and can imagine how much fun they had, XOXO

    1. You have a point. My two are total garbage hounds. But the corn seems to bring the gassiness to a whole new level!

    1. She just loves to run and run and run. She has a great recall, too. When I call her, she just makes a beeline for me. Such a good girl.

  10. Happy belated Gotcha day woofies! I totally ralate to your sadness! I remember the days when we would go to others' corn fields and steal their corn until one extremely disappointing day when every thing was harvested and all we could do was to stare at the bunnies who were as much in shock as we were :(

  11. My son in Winchester is surrounded by farmer's fields. It is sad when that privacy hedge and coziness disappears. The grandchildren like to hide in the rows. There are some strict rules for that.

  12. I would have loved a cornfield to play in when I was a kid, but it sure would be easy to get lost in there!!
