Long ago, in an art department far, far away...

My first job as a graphic designer was in the art department of the now-defunct Starter Canada, in Montreal from 1991-1992. I was poorly paid and my boss was a total cheap-wad ass, but I made some good friends and managed to learn a lot and have some fun.

One of my assignments at the time was to design a logo for the Concordia University sports teams, aka the Stingers. It pleases me to no end that they are still using the logo almost twenty years later. Not bad considering how inexperienced I was! Obviously I had an affinity for stinging insects even then, well before my beekeeping endeavours began.

I still have the sketchbook in which I drew my ideas for a nasty-looking stinging insect suitable for the uniforms of tough football players and such.

More of my handiwork can be found in the Mexican food section at your local CO-OP grocery store. I designed taco kit and nacho bag packaging for them almost 15 years ago, and last time I checked, they were still using it! (Really, it's time for them to re-work the packaging.)

Go Stingers Go!

PS: IF you haven't watched my Conehead video in the last post, make me happy and do so.

  2. I've seen that bee before - nice to know where it came from.
It's funny, I drove by one of my old work places a few weeks ago and was so please to see she had a new sign with the logo I designed for the owner 10 years ago!

Wandering Cat, that's neat you've seen it before. That's great your logo is still going strong too. Makes you think you did a pretty good design, no?

James and Nick, thank you and merci.

Willie, are you sucking up because you want more eggs and whisky marmalde? :)
