Breakfast happenings

Super-hubby made blintzes yesterday morning, with strawberries and sour cream. Not bad for a Scottish lad, eh? However, I am wondering why he decided to put a Jewish treat in the shape of a cross!!! And are blintzes traditionally square? I'm not sure how much it matters. The "squareness" might just be Gordon's personal touch.

The recipe is from The Sunlight Cafe by Mollie Katzen. Gordon also makes dang good latkes. Interestingly, he can't make haggis. I think he was born in the wrong culture.

I could eat blintzes every day

  1. Blintzes can be square or rectangular. I've even seen them as triangles. In any case, who cares what shape they are because they are yummy.

I am envious! And you should be happy, because which would you rather eat: blintzes and latkes, or haggis??

Now you can mention that 'tis the season for matzah brie.

  2. I am going to challenge him to make dog-shaped blintzes. HAHAHAHA!

And I NEVER want to eat haggis...

  3. You have invented the new craft of blintz origami!

I don't blame you about the haggis. Of course, this time of year you could be forced to eat gefilte fish.

  4. I'm not sure, frankly, which I would rather eat: haggis or gefilte fish. I am leaning towards the latter!

  5. Aren't ethnic foods fun?!?

  6. Don't forget that St. John's, Newfoundland favourite: seal flipper pie!

  7. Maybe Gordon was going for a sort of Easter Meets Pesach, blood of the lamb/blood on the cross (strawberry), sort of thing.

I'd skip the haggis, too, but how about a nice brisket with kishke?

As for gefilte fish, see if you can track down Wolfgang Puck's recipe. To die for. So's his matzoh, for that matter.

  8. Brisket works for me! But no haggis!!

Okay, so really, Gordon was just being culturally inclusiv with his blintz design.

  9. Personally, I believe Gordon's arrangement was dictated by the pattern on your dishes... check out the beautiful alignment and symmetry. Mind you, attention to such detail is not job-requirement. I'd take any many who'll cook!
