Well, I just missed the anniversary. February 7 marked TEN YEARS since I started this blog. A DECADE! That is more than a little mind-boggling, not to mention utterly terrifying. Where does the time go?! I remember starting this blog and it sure as hell doesn't feel like ten years ago. In that time I have written 1,847 posts (including this one!) It all started here.
And the flock... well, we received two new additions last weekend! Meet lovely Honey:
... and her beau, George!
Somewhere in heaven my father-in-law is laughing, because his name was George too! On the other hand, he believed in reincarnation, soooooo... ;)
George has a lot to say! My father-in-law was a chatty, gregarious guy too. :)
Honey and George came to use because of that article about me and the pigs in the Cornwall Standard Freeholder. They were in a very loving home; so loving, in fact, that their family thought it would be best if they found the ducks a home with more space to run around in. So their human mom sent me a lovely email, asking if we'd consider taking these two in.
So we did, and they fit in like they always lived here...
Honey even has a bit of a thing for our blind duck Lenny!
Their integration was surprisingly harmonious.
The only thing is...
George isn't too sure about the cats. He climbed up on a flake of hay to keep an eye on Pip and Buttercup the other day. None of the barn cats bother the birds but George and Honey need a little time to get used to this pack of felines wandering around!
These two new beauties are Saxony ducks. They're both two years old. Their family used to take them camping! They are very sweet and tame and like to follow me around. They enjoy a treat of kitten kibble, and like the rest of the my flock, they seem very fond of black oil sunflower seeds.
Thank you Catherine and family for entrusting us with these two, and you know you can visit them whenever you like!
PS Thank you so much for all your kind words about our hen Charlotte. It's just not the same without her in the barn, but it's nice to know she touched other people's lives as well.
Happy 10th anniversary!
ReplyDeleteYour menagerie continues to grow. Welcome Honey and George!

PS Off to see the first post.
I hope Gorgeous George does not become jealous of his Honey's interest in Blind Lenny, but then he has much more around him to interest him now.
ReplyDeleteCan't blame a big bird from being suspicious of cats.
I always have said that I'd like to come back as one of my cats since it's pretty much cat heaven here.
ReplyDeleteHowever, should I return as a duck, chicken, turkey, pig, pony or something else, I hope I end up at your place.
Honey the duck is one pretty duck!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the anniversary and on the new acquisitions - they are very attractive!
ReplyDeleteTEN YEARS!!!! OMG!! Huge congratulations!! Love your feathered friends too!

ReplyDeleteDucks really are delightful creatures. TEN YEARS? You must have started when you were still a teenager!
ReplyDeleteYou charmer you! :) Thank you!!
DeleteI am so enamoured with all of the critters that live with you and with your blog (which I have been receiving for maybe about one month). I have missed about ten years of wonderful stories. Thank you. I am intrigued with the idea of taking ducks camping...
ReplyDeleteI love your photos always!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is one impressive milestone! Congratulations. . . and thank you! I love your blog. . . love your critters, your farm, and the lovely way you share it all with us.
ReplyDeleteCarry on!
What beautiful ducks! Especially Honey. I've never seen a duck that colour before. We have on the pond that visit our yard everyday during the summer. I just love watching the mothers with their ducklings. We sometimes have mothers with their babies waiting while another family eats. They never mingle. But one day last summer I counted thirty three ducks on our lawn. What a racket! And congrats on your ten years. Now I must start reading from the beginning.
ReplyDeleteWow, congratulations on your anniversary. That's a pretty impressive number. I always look forward to your posts. You have such a wonderful way with animals, and your writing and photography really get that across. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your anniversary!!! I love your blog. : )
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 10 years of wonderful posts! It always warms my heart to read about all the animals in your loving care. I see on your side-bar that it's 6 months since I last posted. Shame on me!
