When good cats go bad

But before I begin, please explain to me how it got to be WEDNESDAY already? I swear I'd posted just the day before yesterday, but no, it was Sunday. Where the hell did Monday and Tuesday go?

Oh well, on to the felines...

Emily was snoozing on my table the other day when Naomi decided that the potatoes in those ears needed cleaning out...

Naomi is a little obsessed with earwax. More than once, I have woken up to find her tongue in my ear. Now THAT'S an alarm clock! Anyway, Emily seemed to be enjoying Naomi's motherly albutions.

She was in fact so appreciative, she grabbed Naomi's noggin and began to return the favour.

Licky lick lick lickety lick lick!

Uh oh...

When Naomi attempted to regain control of Emily's wax situation, something changed.

"Noooooooo!! You may NOT stick your tongue in my ear again! Get thee gone, Satan!"

Whap whap whap whap! My goodness, cats DO fight like girls, don't they? So slappy!

Naomi manages to maintain her dignity while Emily goes all flat-ear misery-guts on her.

Naomi pretends not to give a damn... Emily's ears relax ever-so-slightly.

...but she's clearly pissed off. And check out the sideways glance Emily is giving Naomi. "Don't even think about touching my ear potatoes again!"

Believe it or not, these two are good buddies and are always playing together. Or play-attacking each other. At least, I think it's play-attacking...

(Note: I have hopes that that FUGLY book border will be stripped out of my office sometime in the next few months. House renos have now been going on since $@#!@&#!! April, with a change of personnel. And soon I will share photos of the miraculous transformation of our century staircase, courtesy of the ever-talented Tammy!)

Sigh... I tend to waken up and find my lady facing the other way...

Sorry... cats... I got sidetracked there. I love the slappy fighting picture, though slappy fighting with claws is more dangerous than slappy fighting with lady hands.

    1. Not Gordon's tongue! A cat's! Hahahaha!

And I do keep their claws trimmed. It helps a bit!

  2. first off I laughed so hard when you called it ear potatoes...never heard it called that before. second I was just impressed you had the camera at the ready when this all went down. My pup and cat are endlessly doing cute, funny things, but always when my camera is out of reach :)

    1. Made that one up Monkey! Glad you liked it. And yes, luckily my camera was right at hand for this silliness. It can be really hard to capture sometimes.

  3. It must be a female kitty thing. My two females do that too. One minute they're all licky-licky and the next they are all hissy-hissy!

  4. Yep, that goes on here, too. They have to both be 'into it' at the same second or all hell breaks loose.

I hope you don't mind but I captured the Malala button to post on my blog. I feel like that brave girl deserves all the recognition she can get.

  8. I thought you were trying to convert me to cats??! Laptop was in the danger zone there for a moment.

Sympathise re renos and change of personnel. Look forward to seeing the results. I sacked our architect on a project once and ended up project managing it myself. Not recommended.

    1. Yes, I should have been keeping an eye on my laptop!!

Oh dear about the architect!! Our renos aren't even of the kind requiring an architect, but they do drag on!!!!

As someone who has had her driveway ripped up, (and the front, back and side yards which have now turned to mud (thanks to the Oregon rain)), I can commiserate with you about renovations taking forever. I've sprinkled clover seed down and am keeping fingers crossed that it will take hold so that the mud will be lessened if not gone soon-ish, and am hoping my laborer (read: hubby) will be able to tackle the rest of the driveway and put it back together again. Tripping and slipping to one's car every morning is no way to start one's day!
And, your cats are adorable. I had two brothers once, and they slept curled together. One would start grooming the other and then it was hands-down, full-on "Kittywrestlemania." Such fun to watch!

  9. Oh, how I miss that tongue in my ear:-( Do cats PMS??? Sometimes, I just can't be bothered either, so I understand Emily's quick turn around reaction. Drat, it is Wednesday and I wish time wouldn't fly by so fast!

    1. Hmm, the question is, do SPAYED cats PMS? Otoh, all cats are a little moody!

  10. That's exactly how the tussles start between my boys - a nice grooming session turning into an all-out wresting match after 10 licks.

  11. Knatolee, this post has given me the best howling laugh session! Love the cat spat! What's not fun is a fight between two big toms. When my daughter brought her twenty pound city kitty boy to live with me, my country dude and he fought like cats and, well, cats! I mean fur flying, curtain tearing, blood spattering fights and it went on for almost a year. I'll take the girlie fighting any day. ~ Maureen
ps - Thanks to Ms. Sparrow for speaking up for Malala!

  12. This is the best laugh I've enjoyed this week. Like yours, our cats yield no ground to the poor little dog, either. That was a very good dust up you had there.

  13. The only sparring ours gets, is with the moth-eaten moggies next door.... they don't stand a chance!

Great action shots! (The best camera moments around my house are usually sans camera - like 2 dogs, four cats and myself chasing a hummingbird in the house -- I'm trying to rescue, the others?)My cairn terrier actually rules the roost here.
