My bloggy friend Deb of Just Cats was saying how she missed seeing Emily, so I did a little photo session today when Em was in one of her rare moments of repose.
My gorgeous little tabby girl!
Deb thinks Emily has Bengal kitty in her, and she sure has a lot of Bengal personality traits, not to mention beautiful markings. Everyone who sees here remarks on her coat.
Emily was dumped at our farm in January, a tiny six-week-old kitten with an amazing will to live. It was around -25 deg C when she woke me up at 5:00 one morning, meowing her head off outside my bedroom window.
I spent the next 24 hours trying to catch her, chasing her all around the yard and in and out of the granary.
Our cleaning lady Rosemary helped me catch Emily the next day. We cornered her in a woodpile in the granary and performed an extraction!
Apart from losing the very tip of her tail to frostbite, Emily was healthy and happy. She has fit in very well here.
I'm pretty sure she's boss cat! And she is the leanest, longest, most agile cat I have ever had.
Not to mention beautiful!
And full of personality and charm.
We love you, Miss Emmypants!
And just so no one's disappointed, here's Mama-Ronna and babies today, just after the babies had a little bath:
Gordon's a little sad tonight because Warren the duck has gone back to Upper Canada Village (he was spending the winter here.) And apparently his name is Vern, not Warren! I sent along one of the unnamed girl ducks to keep him company. The boys who picked her up with their Dad (who works at UCV) have named her Louise. Hopefully Vern and Louise will have a happy summer together and make lots of babies for the village!
We'll visit Warren aka Vern at the Village this summer.
Meanwhile, it was difficult to use my desk today. Apart from the crap all over it, I had to make Julius happy by putting a bed up there for him, since Emily is now stealing his special spot all the time. It doesn't leave much room for me to work at my art!
Hope you all have a good weekend!
I feel so honoured tonight by Miss Em. What beautiful photos you got of her today. Perfect model/mood & lighting. She is gorgeous. OK...I'm happy for awhile now but not for too long. Hope Vern & Louise do fine together. I didn't realize you have some ducks that you haven't named. Becoming quite the hobby farm. :)
ReplyDeleteI will try to have Emily's photos keep pace with the ducklings'! :) Yes, I haven't named some of the girl ducks but it's time. For awhile there were a bunch of them I couldn't tell apart! But I think I have them all straight now. :)
DeleteEmily is ridiculously beautiful. The markings on her back look like some kind of rich wood grain - perhaps a walnut. Love these pictures!
ReplyDeleteShe's a really striking cat. Everyone who sees her in person comments on her markings!
DeleteEmily is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteToday my cat was very, very cute that I had to take pics. She was sleeping on the deck using a skull as a pillow! I know that sounds spooky, but it was cute.
Oh I would have liked to see that photo!!
DeleteLove the cats!!Nice post!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Judy! :)
DeleteMiss Emily is so Grand :) We went back to old post and found out she came to you as a boy kitty :)
ReplyDeleteThose duckling are growing up like a weed! They are bigger than the last post already :)
Glad Julius got his spot on the desk back :)
THe ducklings grow SO fast. I wish they'd slow down a little! And yes, I thought Emily was a boy for awhile. The vet soon set me straight. :)
DeleteBella Emily. Her face is beautifully proportioned which adds to the cuteness... but beware, those eyes look as though they are plotting more mischief.
ReplyDeleteHer current mischief is trying to steal my toast with cashew butter in the morning. Who knew cats loved nut butter? She's turning into a real pest about it! :)
DeleteI was wndering where the cats were. Glad to see Julius in his rightful place too!
ReplyDeletePoor Julius, everyone seems to be giving him grief these days (Sophie, the other cats.) I think he needs his own private cat tree.
DeleteCame to visit from Deb's blog....love your sweet cat Emily! What a beauty!
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda, and I'm glad you stopped by!
DeleteAnd a good weekend to you and all the animals, too. Emily is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI envy your skills and artistry with a camera! The photos are wonderful, as usual.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Ms. Sparrow. I widened my blog so I can post the pics at a larger size!
DeleteEmily is indeed beautiful!
ReplyDeleteVern and Louise sound like a couple made in heaven.
Let's hope they have lots of little babies for Upper Canada Village (and that the babies don't all get eaten!)
DeleteWhat a lovely (and lucky) girl she is to have found you, and you, her. So glad she's well-loved and happy. Also happy for Vern and Louise. May they live long and prosper. You all, too.
ReplyDeleteTHanks so much Deven! I remember how relieved I was when we finally caught Emily. I was so worried she'd freeze to death before I could get my hands on her.
DeleteCan you turn around for a second? I need to zip on over and steal Miss Emily. Or at least snorgle her tummy! Your desk looks just like Scott's--all Cat and no Work.
ReplyDeleteI think Emily would LOVE the Katnip lounge!! And I need a bigger desk...
DeleteThat is the most gorgous cat, the best ones seem to come from farms. My two did, in southern Minnesota. Found you through Deb & Audrey who is another amazing cat. Love the ducklings!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Audrey! And Annie! Thank you for stopping by. Our other cat Naomi showed up at the farm in 2008 as a little kitten. I would love to know where they came from, but we're just happy to have htem. :)
DeleteI've said this so many times, how can anyone dump such a young kitten, in such awful cold? She is SO lucky to have found you! She is gorgeous - her coat a work of art. Oh - and I love the kitty baskets on your desk! Nice to know others do "crazy" stuff like this for their fur-kids :)
ReplyDeleteShe was SO tiny! It really was a death sentence, so thank God I found her!!!
DeleteMy! I saw a picture of Emily on Google and noticed, she looked just like my brother's cat, markings and all! I had to come look for more pictures of her. She is so pretty. :)
ReplyDeleteManaged to find a picture of her on my phone! She's very anti-camera. ;P
