We've had a very mild autumn this year. At the end of October, I took the dogs for a walk and found a little spray of goldenrod still blooming on the border of the back fields. Every bug in the area seemed to be on it!
A Spotted Cucumber Beetle, a Yellow-collared Scape Moth, and some kind of fly.
The moth prepares for take-off!
Hmmm... not sure what this little guy is!
Here's the Spotted Cucumber Beetle again. They eat all kinds of crops and plants you'd rather they didn't, but I still think they're kind of cute!
Spotted Cucumber Beetle bum.
And look, dandelions blooming into November! Very weird.
With an iridescent green pollinator enjoying a meal! Maybe an Orchard Mason bee... does anyone know?
The temperatures have finally dropped and flowers will soon be a thing of the past, until next spring when it all starts up again.
You do love that lens of yours! Great pix once again; especially the one you'd put the black spots on.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cro!
DeleteWow! You should work for National Geographic:-D I love spider mums and it looks like this Mason bee does too...good taste!
ReplyDeleteThank you Susan. I'd like to sell more of my photography. :)
DeleteYou're right. Spotted Cucumber beetle is real cute. Great photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you Ms. Duck!
DeleteFirst of all it's surprising to see the flowers this late in the fall. And then if the flowers are there the insects show up.
ReplyDeleteOur fall ended abruptly about Oct. 20 and we've had winter ever since except for about three days when it was above zero.
It was really late for this but everything is now well dead. -8C last night!
DeleteAh - those are fine examples of the lesser-splatted yuck-bug. I imagine that you must have had a fine old time with a rolled-up newspaper after you took the photos! Or did you just stand and empty your Uzi into the bush? Either way, well spotted, and thank you for dealing with those. You did deal with them, right? None of them escaped?
ReplyDeleteI'm not so fast with the rolled-up newspaper, Owl Wood. Last I heard, they were flying over to England!
DeleteJust look at those little curly bits on the dandelion! I love these close ups.
ReplyDeleteAmazing what you see with the macro isn't it? It's better than my naked eye!
DeleteOK, even the bee is beautiful but they're in general deadly (for me) and give me the shivers!
ReplyDeleteIf that is a mason bee, it doesn't sting so that one should be okay for you!!
