The macro lens is good for portraits! I took a bunch of photos yesterday afternoon in the lovely sunny weather.
Tristan, who turns 10 next month. He is a Lab/Vizsla cross we adopted five years ago this November. Now he's lived with us for as long as he was at his first home!
And his buddy Sophie, who turns 10 this month. She and Tristan were a package deal. She's mostly yellow Lab and was born on a farm somewhere in Quebec. She just looooves it when I put a hat on her. Can't you tell? (she says, sarcastically!)
We love them both very much!
Tristan has really slowed down. He's got arthritis issues that he's on meds for. But he still seems happy and enjoys his walks, even if his pace has slowed down a lot!
Sophie has a great nose. She probably smells a deer somewhere way off across the field. The soy and otebo beans are about ready to be harvested.
The dogs are excellent with the chickens and ducks. Errol Flynn saunters by with only a slight backwards glance!
I put this big old squash in the duck and chicken run. Sophie went in, picked it up, and carried it out for a snack! That dog will eat ANYTHING.
My pretty girl.
My handsome boy.
I let all the birds out to free-range yesterday and everyone had a lovely afternoon.
Enjoy the weekend!
Tristan is the most handsome boy!

He's quite striking, isn't he? And a BIG DORK.
DeleteSuch a breathtaking view of your chickens and dogs together. I love your animal kingdom, XOXO
ReplyDeleteAs you may have noticed, I'm rather overly fond of animals... :)
DeleteThat is just sooooo swell. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI thought you'd appreciate some dogs for a change!
DeleteYou have many good friends and the good friends are very well cared for.
ReplyDeleteThank you Red! I do love my pets.
DeleteSuch wonderful woofies you have!!!! I love the view of the fields. Such a pretty place!
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice time of year! I wish we had more hardwood trees on our farm so we'd get more fall colours, but I still love it here.
DeleteI'm dying to let my hens out like that, but am unsure about how the dogs would react. Maybe I'll try it with the boys on their leads.
ReplyDeleteLovely dogs. Lab X's are so nice.
Boys on their leads, and a handful of small treats to distract them from the chickens. Slow and gradual! I was lucky because these two came trained. They do have a prey drive; when they were younger they were always bagging squirrels, chipmunks, the odd rat and MUSKRATS, for God's sake. I can't say I enjoyed that so I'm glad they've slowed down. But they're both very good with birds and cats. Tristan tried to bag a porcupine once and ended up at the emergency vet. The porcupine was just fine!
DeleteYee-ess! Dogsnotbees! ;-) Dogs - more friendly to the whole human race than most of the human race! I love 'em. Kindly give 'em a hug from me please.
ReplyDeleteHugs delivered, and I'll try to feature the poor neglected dogs more often!
DeleteWhat big huggable dogs! I love the tableau of dogs and chickens in the afternoon sun. Delightful!
ReplyDeleteTristan is particularly soft and snuggly. :)
DeleteOh so lovely pictures of your cute dogs.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Thank you Elna. Little Emily-kitty is IN LOVE with Tristan and is always rubbing up against him.
DeleteWonderful looking animals. Tristan is magnificent looking in his shots and when I saw Sophie's second shot, I thought "Old Yeller!" You can see the mischievous intelligence in her eyes.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Oh boy, "mischievious intelligence" says it all! She is SO smart and so fast. And when she's done something naughty (like raid my office garbage can), she looks so guilty. Hahaha!
DeleteThese are wonderful photos! They make me yearn for another large dog.
ReplyDeleteThe pumpkin-eating pup is funny. Our vet recommends putting canned pumpkin on our dog's food when she's constipated or has diarrhea. (Certainly less expensive than the meds.) Anyway, I'd expect that Sophie will be pretty regular for awhile.
THose two dogs are such garburators, it takes a lot to upset their stomachs. I gave up trying to control that a long time ago since they free-range on the farm all the time (they never wander far from the house, which is amazing.) But yes, I was expecting some olfactory delights in my office (where the dogs sleep) after that pumpkin, but so far, so good!
DeleteThey are both striking. I fell in love with them just from their photos. I can only imagine what it feels like to be with them in person.
ReplyDeleteThey are good little buddies and like to stick to us like velcro. :)
DeleteLove the shots with the dogs and chickens! Your land is so beautiful (and you have a great photographer's eye), you make me want to visit Canada. Do show us Emily-kitty rubbing against Tristan!
ReplyDeleteI've lived on both coasts now, and in the middle: BC, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec. This country certainly has an great diversity of landscapes. We've driven across it twice now and it never ceases to amaze me. I am dying to go to the North. I've been to Alaska, but not our own north!
DeleteI will work at getting an Emily/Tristan photo. It's very cute! He doesn't like it when she tries to wash out his ear, though.
Lovely photos, all of them!
ReplyDeleteThanks Monika!
DeleteCan't help but comment that besides loving all your photos (Love Love Love them!!!) This one cracked me up... it looks like Sophie is staring at the tomatoes!!! hahahahahaha
ReplyDeleteHugs from all of us out here!!
Hugs back! And she probably WAS staring at the tomatoes. "How can I get over that fence and into that garden!?" No doubt she'll have it figured out soon!
DeleteI love dogs and yours are so lovable. They look so content and happy with their life with you.
ReplyDeleteThey seem pretty happy here. Their lives aren't tough, that's for sure. ;) Very loyal and affectionate, those two.
