Pigs looooove watermelon!

Treat time at the Rowe-Campbell rescue piggery! My friend Brian asked me to video them when they got a watermelon...

Dahlia (black sow that's not Jersey!) lost some of her hair this winter due to pig mange, but everyone's had their spring Invomec shots now so she'll be looking better soon.

Rudy, it turns out, is looking to be top pig! Yesterday I saw him butt Ophelia away from the food, and she did not protest. Usually it's Ophelia pushing everyone away! Rudy was shoving everyone else, too, and they were accepting this, so I guess they've worked out their new hierarchy!

All of these pigs could stand to lose a few and are on reduced feed rations!

And look at this cat abuse!

Actually, Honey didn't mind being held like that at all and was watching other cats frolic on the driveway. Gordon got that awesome shirt at RC Tees.

And what day is complete...

...without beautiful donkey ears?

Hope your weekend is wonderful!

  4. Knatolie: you remembered!!! Thank you for the video and running commentary! I feel a little embarrassed because I have my own half-watermelon in the fridge. I will try to eat it with utensils. A question: will your piggies simply leave the rind? I saw Ophelia try to gnaw off a bit of rind with great effort. I thought pigs ate pretty much everything.

Cat Lover is right on! Those piggie tails are so cute!

    Oink on!

    1. They ate every last bit of rind, but they ate the juicy pink stuff first!

  8. Nine pigs! You're in the swine business in a big way. It's sad that nobody else wants some of these critters.

  13. I used to have 40 piggies which were kept in the bush, ie. 40 acres surrounded by electric. There used to be a fellow who raised pumpkins heading toward Ottawa. When he was finished harvesting his field, he kindly let us take our truck in and fill it to the gunnels. We would feed the pumpkins to the piggies well into the winter. What a treat for them! We used to call it pig candy.
