One more shot from the top of Ella Rock...
A nice American guy originally from Binghamton, NY took this. He was amazed we knew where Binghamton is! It's just a couple of hours south of our place, over the border.
So yesterday we hit the road again, on our way to Kandy. This morning we visited the Temple of the Tooth. Instead of giving you a picture of the temple, I give you...
...a picture of a dead honey bee I found at the Temple. Not apis mellifera. I am thinking apis cerana. Anyone? Poor thing died with a full load of pollen!
But I'm getting ahead of myself. Before we got to Kandy yesterday, we stopped at a Hindu temple near Nuwara Eliya.
I have a thing for Hindu temples. I'm a sucker for lots of ornamentation in places of worship!
After the temple, we passed many farms in Nuwara Eliya...
People were out harvesting leeks. You could smell leek in the air!
And at the tea estates, the tea pickers were working hard. A job I would not want. :(
Mackwoods is a huge estate that seems to think it's Hollywood! :)
We stopped for lunch near Ramboda Falls. Here's a panoramic view from our table.
Sri Lanka is a beautiful country!
Gordon likes the giant bottles of Lion stout.
While I cannot resist papaya juice. And after eating much curry and other Sri Lankan delicacies, I broke down and had...
...a cheese and tomato sandwich. The shame! :)
I don't know where to begin, there is so much beauty in this post. The farms are gorgeous, the hills, the landscape, the temple, you in a hat and even that sandwich. :) You guys must be having the time of your life. Thanks for sharing and have fun. Deb
ReplyDeleteTHanks Deb!! I am looking forward to our next trip here. I wish the flight weren't so arduous!!
DeleteThe landscape looks gorgeous. Was that a statue of Hanuman, the monkey-god of the Ramayana?
ReplyDeleteI don't know my Hindu gods but that sounds about right!! Definitely a monkey face.
DeleteMy mom-person say´s that now she want´s to go to Sri Lanka :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a place she woud love too.

She should go! It's fantastic. :) So far we have been invited into three different homes for a meal!!!
DeleteIt certainly is beautiful, the panorama shot is stunning.
ReplyDeleteNot keen on tomato, but ooooh, those fries!
They were so good! I think they do them in coconut oil or something... decadent!
DeleteWhat a wonderful trip and your pictures are superb.
ReplyDeleteThank you Alain!
DeleteWhat gorgeous views..absolutely breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteI understand your need for home food. When I was in Kenya I craved apples and cabbage.

I'm pretty good about eating local when we're away but every so often, I just break down and go for the cheese and tomato sammie! :)
DeleteI have a friend that went to Sri Lanka and loved it too. Stunning photos.
ReplyDeleteWe want to come back for a third visit. It's a pretty special place. Wonderful people.
DeleteYour photos have got me wanting to visit!!
ReplyDeleteYou would have a great time taking photos here!!! I love this country. The people are wonderful.
DeleteBeautiful country. I'd want familiar food at some point, too :)
ReplyDeleteTOnight we had pizza!
DeleteWhen you said ornate temples you really meant it. these are very detailed. I can see why you would like to visit the temples.
ReplyDeleteTHey're fascinating!
DeleteKandy is where my family's Tea Garden was. Have you visited The Hill Club; my uncle was president?
ReplyDeleteI did not! I must put it on the list for next time. I love Kandy!
DeleteEnjoy why it last. It looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSoon I will be going home to mud season!
DeleteWow! Those are great pictures... really beautiful there. And as for ornamentation, that's ornamentation at it's most!! Sounds like you are having a wonderful time. So glad that you are sharing with us. And that cheese and tomato sandwich looks and sounds great to me!
ReplyDeleteI think because I grew up Catholic, I have a thing for fancy statues and such in places of worship! :)
DeleteLovely, lovely, lovely. Thank you for the free trip. I will never get there myself so this is as good as it gets for me. But because I feel like I sort of know you, it is better than even a National Geographic article. I go back and look at the pictures a second time on any travel blog, sometimes 3 times. The gardens and fields all look so neat and tidy.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are enjoying your virtual vacation! :) Yes, the gardens are lovely here.
DeleteWow, thanks for these stunning pictures! I am sure I'll never get there, but I feel as though I'm there with you (except I'm glad no to be experiencing that kind of heat!).
ReplyDeleteYou can enjoy it from the comfort of your climate-controlled home!
