The last flowers of summer

I was busy extracting honey today. Nearly done! Things are starting to wind down in my garden, and the leaves are already turning on many trees. Our black walnuts are dropping yellow leaves all over the yard. Sigh.

Here are some macro shots from the other day...

A bumblebee enjoying cosmos.

You can just see her reddish proboscis getting into there for some nectar!

And how pretty does a marigold look...

... when you photograph it...

...up...

...close!

This one I grew from seeds!

I forget what variety of coneflower this is, but I bought it last year and I really like it.

Bumblebee on sedum. It looks like she's throwing up her front legs in glee!

And this is not the most beautiful shot, but it fascinates me...

This bumblebee has her schnozz stuck way into the remains of a bee balm blossom.  She's working really hard for her nectar.

Here's another lovely bumblebee...

And some beautiful sunflowers!

Enjoy what's left of summer. :)

  6. Once again, wonderful pictures. Not many flowers around here now; the fields of sunflowers have all been harvested, and I don't know the names of the few that remain. I suppose the Saffron Crocuses will be out soon, but that'll be the end.

    1. My sunflowers are hanging in, but we'll have frost very soon. It was 3C last night, sigh..

Do they grow fields and fields of saffron? Must be pretty when they're in bloom!

  8. I love the bumblebee shots. All of my black walnuts were harvested by squirrels some time ago. Now I see them scurrying around moving the little treasures to new hiding places!
