Seasons come, seasons go...

I took a few photos with my iPhone while walking the dogs back to the river the other day (the Beaudette River runs along the back border of our 86-acre property.) Not quite my Nikon Digital SLR, but really it's amazing that pictures from a phone are any good at all. I remember growing up with rotary dial phone and getting all excited when we got a phone with push buttons. And the idea of people talking on a phone and being able to see the person they were conversing with was VERY sci-fi. Well, hello Skype! Things change, seasons come, seasons go..

Quite a few trees are still green in the hardwood forest next to our lot. We have mostly white pine and white spruce. Our neighbours on all sides have the hardwood back there!

The big tree turning red on the left is on our property, and it's a burr oak. I don't know how old it is but its trunk is massive. It and the white spruce next to our house are the oldest, biggest trees on our property.

Obviously this isn't a recent photo, but it shows the incredibly tall white spruce on the right. They used to make ships' masts out of these trees. The big tree between the house and the spruce is a black walnut that's approximately 85 years old. We have six of them! The squirrels LOVE it here, and I find black walnuts stored EVERYWHERE.

Back to autumn...

There's Tristan, plodding towards me. His arthritis is really slowing him down (despite medication) but he still insists on coming for a walk. I just let him follow along at his own pace and he seems quite happy. It makes me sad that he can't run the way he used to!

The mighty Beaudette River.

And Tristan can't resist water.

In he goes!

A happy boy.

Another shot of the burr oak.

Have a good Sunday. Our house is still undergoing renovations (almost six months now and I'm ready to scream!). I'm going to try and sort out some of the chaos today, and get some pics of the cats enjoying our new couch.

    1. It has been really warm here for this time of year and i figure that's slowing the "droppage" down. We still haven't had a killing frost and it's supposed to be in the 20s (Celsius) next week.Par for the course for the weather we've had this year!

  3. Your pictorial reminds us that change is inevitable. Trying to "buck" the system is futile; instead, embrace the change and revel in the beauty that you have shown it to be. XOXO

I guess being in the water feels so good on Tristan's arthritic joints...does he like a warm bath ?

  6. What a wonderful to have that beautiful property to walk with Tristan! House renovated or not, you wouldn't change having a million dollar view. I'm surprised you haven't shown us your white water rafting on the mighty river! ~ Maureen

  7. Great photos, even on the iPhone. Must remind Mike that mine is due an upgrade..

The autumn colours are just starting here too. Before we know it, we will be knee high in leaves.

  8. I was never aware of the large number of black walnut trees until this year. Everyone is remarking at the abundance of walnuts. That hasn't proven to be a big problem for me because of all the squirrels around here. They harvest the nuts before they fall off the tree. I love your sweet old Tristan. I hope the winter isn't too hard on him.

    1. They take our nuts and hide them all over our barn, granary and property. It's amazing where we find walnuts! :)

  9. I am soooooooo jealous!!!!!!

There is a product called EFAC which might help Tristan. I use it for my cats, and it really made a huge difference. Perhaps he likes going in the water because it takes off the presure of his weight from his achy bones!

  10. Your Tristan and our Monty would have great times together. I love to watch M swimming to fetch sticks. Give a Lab' some water, and the result is HAPPINESS.

  11. Really like pic. no6 but they are all wonderful. I like those tall brown weeds -they're cozy looking. Remind me of rough spun yarn. Poor Tristan - it's hard to get old and creaky. Still I'm sure his nose is in fine form and he gets to enjoy all kinds of wonderful smells on his walks.
