Prize-winning honey!

Guess whose honey won second prize in the amateur category at the Williamstown Fair this weekend?

Yes, that'd be me. Now, I'm not convinced that there were more than two entries in our category, but what the hell, I'll take it! I'm pretty sure my honey still had some unattractive air bubbles in it when it was judged last night, because I was out of the proper jars and had to transfer it to a new jar at the fair when I dropped it off. But I am very pleased to have a ribbon and be able to say my bees make award-winning honey!

Next year I'll enter in the non-amateur category. My friend Eugene also won a ribbon for his honey. Because he has more than five hives, he's not considered an amateur. His competition was a little stiffer.

In Canada, red ribbons tend to be for first place, but I think in the US, blue ribbons more commonly signify first prize. Am I right about that?

I like this picture from Wikipedia that shows honey at the 2008 Texas State Fair:

  3. Congratulations! What fun contest! We participated in a dog show once, and Biko won first place, and got a blue ribbon for it. This was in Sarnia, Ontario.

  4. You are correct on the ribbon coloration for the States. Blue ribbons are generally given as first place. :)

Congratulations on your win! :) I wish I could order some from you.

  6. WOW! I'm so proud of you. How could you not win? They're the best looking bees I have ever seen. And I've prayed for them to survive the hot weather. Now, does this mean I'm also famous?
