We've been having a crazy hot summer so far. When it's getting over 95F on a regular basis, that's pretty hot for where we live, especially when you factor in humidity. But the garden is doing very well, although I am having to water everything now so it doesn't die. The soil is dry as a bone.
Two years ago I planted raspberry canes and this year I am getting my first real harvest! I picked these today...
I want to make muffins with this batch.
And yesterday we picked up some fresh local strawberries. There are some good everybearing varieties out there now, so we can get local berries beyond just June! Gordon, bless him, made us some homemade strawberry ice cream...
It is to die for. I need to run more so I can eat more ice cream!
Meanwhile, Julius demanded a belly and chest rub tonight...
He looks kind of huge here but he really isn't.
"A little to the left please!"
"Much better!"
Honestly, he's not fat. He's spread out like a pancake though! Much as he enjoys his belly rubs, it usually ends in tears for me because when he's had enough, he generally sinks his claws into my arm and hand. Sometimes I can see it coming but often there's no warning. He's 12 so I cut him a lot of slack. :)
Hope you all had a good weekend! The temperature here today was lovely, in the mid-70s with a breeze and sunshine. Ahhhhhh!
Julius is not fat, he is just big boned!
ReplyDeletecats have a invisible button on their tummies. If you touch it accidently, an attack is triggered :)
Those berries look so yummy... now I want some ice cream!!!
I will have to keep an eye out for that invisible button!!
DeleteLovely pictures and Julius is so cute! Here in Sweden it's raining all the time, where's the summer? Have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteHugs
Elna
I will trade some of my sun and heat for some of your rain and cool!! :)
DeleteBig J's fur looks so soft and fluffy and squichy and smoochy and...
ReplyDeleteMy cats let me rub bellies but draw the line when I start blowing raspberries on said bellies.
Jane x
If I blew a raspberry on that belly, I'd probably lose an eye! :)
DeleteAh yes, my Gracie is like that. She is a stray who came to the door three years ago, half-starved and covered in cockleburs. She is now so spoiled that she will wake me up demanding some tummy rubs--but when she reaches her cut-off point--ouch!
ReplyDeletePoor little honey! SO lucky she found you. :)
DeleteI'm drooling looking at those raspberries! It's been unbearably hot here too. Four days of over 100F temps. Stay cool!
ReplyDeleteThey are SO good!! It's hard to stop eating them as I pick. :) Hope it cools off there too!!
DeleteI had a surprise black raspberry bush spring up in my yard this year. I think the surprise berries taste even better. The strawberry ice cream looks delicious! Yum! I also wanted to tell you I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. Check it out! http://www.beverlybees.com/versatile-blogger-award
ReplyDeleteThat's so nice, surprise berries! Thank you very much for the award, too! :)
DeleteI miss my ice-cream maker! waaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh
ReplyDeleteTHere there, it has a good home with us!!
DeleteThat ice cream looks very tempting - and so does that wonderful tummy, but in a different way!
ReplyDeleteYou wouldn't want to confuse the two! :)
DeleteRaspberries? Ice cream? Tummy rub? You're hired...
ReplyDeleteThe address and cheque in the mail. (My nails are always cut short. As for the tummy size, it will depend on how much ice cream you left me to eat!)
Where does Julius get his perm? He is so adorably fluffy!
His belly fur really does look permed! He has all these funny little curls.
DeleteI don´t know wath is the best thing: the tummy or the ice cream!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm leaning towards the ice cream..
DeleteJulius Raspberries and ice cream... Such a killer combination but don't eat it off his belly!
ReplyDeleteNo worries there!!!
DeleteThe only other person I know who uses the phrase"to die for" is my wife. I wonder where it comes from?
ReplyDeleteHmm, I'm not sure when or why I started saying it, come to think of it! I mean, I wouldn't literally die for that ice cream... ;)
DeleteI love raspberries and those looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteI don't envy you your high temperatures, but I wish the rain would stop and we had a bit of sunshine round these parts.
I'm sending you virtual sunshine!
DeleteOur raspberry bush exploded this year. I have been having bowls of berrys and cream every morning for breakfast, love them.
ReplyDeleteCats are such contrary creatures :) mine are somewhat the same way, claws and all.
Mmmmmmmmm!!! I think it's a great summer for all things that grow!
