A review of Katie of the Sonoran Desert

In this video, Joanne Manaster, a very cool scientist, reviews science and engineering books for children. At the 7:00-minute mark of the video, she shows and discusses the children's book I illustrated, Katie of the Sonoran Desert/Katie del Desierto Sonorense, which you can find on Amazon or at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum press bookshop.

I was quite excited to see her positive review, and she even mentions my name and compliments the drawings. It made my day, which was going pretty crappily until now!

  1. Congratulations! The review is very good, and your illustrations are splendid. I'll ask my son to order it for my 6-year-old grandson who is an avid reader. Ethan just visited on his way from Florida Wonderland to Manitoba where he lives. I was astonished by his ardent desire to read EVERYTHING at hand...even the description of how to make the Mad Tea Party Blend which he gave me as a gift. He will devour the book you illustrated.

  4. Good on you, Knat, well deserved praise for your illustrations. I'll get a chance to re-read the book soon when I visit my grandkids in Bella Coola.

Fantastic, Natalie! Loved your illustrations---they're really beautiful. Congrats!

As for the Evolution book, send about 10 million of them down here to Texas so we can give them to the people who think Adam and Eve rode their dinosaur to church. :)

  6. Hey Claudia, if you son gets it and you want me to send a signed/personalized "bookplate" (actually a sticker) for your grandon's book, let me know. I'd be happy to do that. That is excellent that he is already such an avid reader.

Thanks, everyone, for the kind words. I would like to see enough books sell that I make more than $2/hour for my work. The first print run was 5000.

TTPT, there seem to be a lot of people around these days who could do with a copy of that evolution book.
