Feline elf

Julius gave me a hand, er, paw, wrapping Christmas presents the other day...

As you can see, he was absolutely no help!

Kitties do love bags!

I think he heard reindeer on the roof!
And now for something completely different. Anyone know what kind of tree/shrub this is? They are thorny and have sprung up along the drain (creek) that runs through out property. I thought they were hawthorn but I think I am confusing them with the ones that have bigger thorns.

Maybe the pea-pod things will help with I.D. And there are little thorns all over these!

I got all my Christmas cards and gifts mailed out yesterday. If any of them actually arrive before Christmas, it'll be a miracle...

  1. Buckthorn possibly?

  2. Nope, not buckthorn. Is it a wild catulpa perhaps - although the pods are rather short??

Those photos of Julius really capture his personality. Very cute.

  5. Honey locust, perhaps? We have honey locusts in this region, and they're covered with infernal-looking clusters of thorns.

  6. Julius probably thinks he is pretty enough to be a present himself. Who needs wrapping when you are that fuzzy and cute?

  8. Rocky helps in the exact same way!

  10. Probably a black locust. Possibly a honey locust. When it gets larger it will be easier to tell the difference between them, but the size of the pod looks more like a mature black locust.

Either way, it seems to be pushing its range and becoming naturalized well beyond its previous range.

  11. Okay, my forester friend identified it as black locust!
