How to get a mama duck to sit on your lap.

It's easy. Try to steal one of her babies! :)

She always goes for me when I pick up a duckling but soon calms down and returns to the others. It's like she's making an effort for show, then figures "Eh, I have 11 more where that one came from."

She is one fierce mama!

And here is the ducklings' first real swim:

Someone suggested a paint tray so that they can get out easily. Ducklings can drown!

Yes, I always talk like that the animals. The smaller and cuter they are, the more air-headed I sound.

  3. Wandering cat, they all do that pretty much constantly and it's so adorable! Even the babies do it with their stubby bums.

Nancy, isn't she though? I try not to stress her out too much but I want to be able to handle the babies a little. But she seems to settle down after making a show of attacking me. She's such a good mama. I wish they didn't grow up so fast!

  4. Those ducklings are growing so fast! I was startled when mama duck pounced on you so quickly when you took one of the ducklings.

  9. What a good mom. She was OK with baby hanging around you until you grabbed it. She's very watchful!

  12. Paula, I picked up a duckling yesterday and was amazed at how much heavier it felt than it was even just last weekend! But they still all nap under Mama.
