I hit my head two weeks ago today... it is a slow go recovering from a concussion, even a mild one. I had no idea it took so long. I am taking the doc's advice and resting, but I am not patient and it is frustrating. Some days are better than others. When I get too tired, or emotional, I have trouble finding words which is such a bizarre thing. Easier to write than to speak at times! Anyway, I will continue to rest and take things a day at a time. I am meditating every day and doing some safe yoga poses (that don't involve balance!) Mostly I miss riding my horse...
But I am spending time with him. He was snuffling in my hair the other day, which he has never done before. I was like, "Do you miss me, or are you looking for a treat in there?!"
And here is the dog with the best ears in the world:
Gigi!
Dodger is actually sleeping like that.
I am not spending my every waking hour in bed, but most days I find I need to lie down for a bit in the afternoon. This is making me crazy. Usually I rack up 12,000 - 20,000 steps on my Fitbit every day... now I'm hovering around 3,000 - 4,000 although I am now making an effort to walk more. Not ready to go back to running yet.
My friends are being really kind. My friend Ronna sent me squash soup!!
It was delicious and I think she grew the squashes she made it from!
I still can't drive, so another friend brought me lunch from The Quirky Carrot and the staff there put a nice note on the bag...
Mushroom panini, yum!
The weather has been like me... up and down! One day it's spring, the next day winter is back.
Dodger was enjoying the warm sun the other day.
And then he enjoyed a nap.
As did Chloe.
Talk to the (Dodger) paw!
Gigi and Dodger helping me relax
Emily is brave with the dogs and doesn't let them stop her from getting what she wants.
Even when Dodger does this!
And then last night there was this...
In the end, she pretended Dodger didn't exist.
And the puppies and cats keep bringing me things...
...a live earthworm! Under my office chair!
And on the door mat...
???
I did not give them this. It is going to be an interesting summer on the farm.
The puppies are at daycare today. We are doing this once in a while to get them some extra socialization and a change of scenery from the farm. They go to Shannoncourt which is a fantastic facility just ten minutes from here. We are so lucky to have this place near us! Dodger and Chloe just finished the Adult Fundamentals obedience course there, and Gigi is finishing up in Puppy class. The staff there is top-notch.
I am off to rest my brain! Have a good Thursday.
Animals are such great healers! Listen to them.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying! :)
DeleteIs that last present a piece of goat horn???
ReplyDeleteToo wide/big/weird. I think it's from a sheep, or maybe a cow?
DeleteOr something more bizarre...
DeleteWell there are ears, and there are EARS; and Gigi has EARS!!!
ReplyDeleteImpressive, aren't they? :)
Deletewe hope you are 100% soon - how nice to have people who care bring you meals. and those ears on Gigi are spectacular
ReplyDeleteTHank you so much! People are being really good to me. :)
DeletePlease get better, sooner than you expect. I can so relate to losing spoken words, and I hate it. So, just get better.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely photos. I especially love the ones where Dodger photobombed the pics with his paw. Feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteHe has no shame! :)
DeleteGlad you are taking things slowly. Love all the critter photos!
ReplyDeleteTHank you!
DeleteWhat was that on the mat? They caught a mini elephant?
ReplyDeleteMay I be on the kitty cats' side and say that they are being pushed aside by those silly dogs to have some lap time? lol, Dodgers velvety paw was everywhere!
Feel better soon Natalie!
A horn, not from one of my animals!!! It looks like it was cut off. maybe from a cow?
DeleteThank you for the good wishes. :)
I love how they all pile on you to 'rest'!! Get better soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you! They do keep me warm!
DeleteI also had no idea recovery was so slow and symptoms were so varied. Glad you've got all that love around you.
ReplyDeleteMe neither, and I ain't happy about it. Patience is NOT my middle name.
DeleteGlad to hear you're taking it easy. Don't rush it! Recovery does take time.
ReplyDeleteThank you !!
DeleteYour horse snuffling you hair... I expect he senses you are unwell, hence the loving healing gestures.
ReplyDelete"What is wrong with your brain, Mama?" God, I miss riding him!!!
DeleteBad reader here - I haven't been keeping up and have just learned of the noggin bump. Sending healing thoughts.
ReplyDeleteOh I am just as bad at keeping up, don't you worry. THank you for the good wishes!
Deleteconcussions are extremely serious things!!!!! Please continue to take good care of yourself and I pray you are back to yourself soon! oxxoxo
ReplyDeleteReally amazed at how something so sudden and unexpected has screwed up my life so much!! Thank you, Caren. xox
DeleteSo life is very , very good for all the critters. Now if the boss could only recover. I hope you get well quickly.
ReplyDeleteTHank you Red. I am pretty sure they'd be happy for me to lie in bed 24/7.
DeleteAnimals are the best healers/companions. Best wishes, Cro x
ReplyDeleteSo cuddly! Thank you, Cro!
DeleteIt always amazes me how my cats intuitively know when I'm not well; wonderful companions. Continue to rest and heal, my friend, XOXO
ReplyDeleteThank you! xox
DeleteHere's to your continued recovery. Looks like you have the best "nurses" to take care of you. :)
ReplyDeleteTHey are pretty wonderful!
DeleteConcussions are bad news! My sister was thrown from a horse last spring, and she is still experiencing problems. You must try not to rush your recovery. I know you are an active and energetic person, but you need to not push yourself. Let your critters snuggle with you - they are the best medicine.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ann! I am working hard at resting. :)
