As in 87 pets on the farm, not counting honey bees.
One woman (Amanda) wasn't enough for Stephan the OSPCA quail, so we got him a few more girlfriends today. At $4 each, quail girlfriends are a steal!

The minute we introduced them, he madly ran around trying to hump every single one. But they were more interested in the dirtbath.
Here's Amanda(rear) and Chantal enjoying a dust-up, while Stephan stalks them from the background...
Christina and Ashley wisely kept their distance!
Which was smart, because in no time, Stephan humped Chantal right in the dirt bath, while Amanda acted nonchalant.
Then our pervy little male-quail proceeded to watch Amanda and Chantal have a bath.
To which Chantal took exception!
This is their little house. It's actually a rabbit hutch.
In winter, it's in the garage but the rest of the year, it will be down in the outdoor duck/chicken aviary. Coturnix quail aren't quite as hardy in our temps as the chickens and ducks are.
Hope everyone is having as good a weekend as Stephan! :)
Haha! Love your closing line. "Welcome ladies."
ReplyDeleteI just hope they're not doing quite what Stephan was, cuz there will be arrests! :)
DeleteWell I guess a couple of moore animals doesn't make a big difference over at your place :)
ReplyDeleteThe quails are very cute !
You have a point! :)
DeleteHow big are the quail? They look quite small in that last picture!
ReplyDeleteNot very big. Hmm, like maybe the size of a baseball with a head? If that? The eggs are described as being the size of large olives. I'd say jumbo olives!
DeleteLove that first pic of Stephan stalking...
ReplyDeleteSubtle he is not!
DeleteThe photos with your commentary are hilarious!
ReplyDeleteWell, I shouldn't have been laughing at the avian rape scene going on in there, but it was pretty funny (only because they were birds, not women!) He was like a kid in a candy shop "OH MY GOD! I MUST HAVE EVERY ONE! RIGHT NOW!" Geezz!
DeleteHe must be over the moon lol ! WOOHOO chicks all of my own lol ! Cute WOW ! 87 animals awesome ! Thanks for sharing , Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteAwesome or crazy, opinions are divided! :)
DeleteTime for bromide in the water bowl.
ReplyDeletePoor ladies :(
Bahahahah! He has FINALLY simmered down!
DeleteOh dear. I hope quail love isn't as rough-and-tumble as chicken love. Be a gentleman, Stephan!
ReplyDeleteI think it's quite possibly worse. He's brutal!
Delete87? That makes you a very busy person.
ReplyDeleteIt does! :)
DeleteStephan is the man! You certainly have a wonderful menagerie and are good to every one of your pets.
ReplyDeleteWe do love them!
Deletehahaha - I bet Stephen is the happiest Quail in the world tonight.
ReplyDeleteOOooooh yes!!
DeleteI'm sure Amanda was glad to see the other females! She is as happy as Stephen is ;-)
ReplyDeleteTHere's a whole lotta happy going on in there!
Delete87 pets/ Oh my goodness!!!!! Thank goodness you have a farm! (wink) www.catchatwithcarenandcody.com
ReplyDeleteYes, it all exploded after we got the farm... we used to have a reasonable number of animals!!
DeleteHaha! Stephen must be in his glory!
ReplyDeleteHe's a very very very very very happy quail man!
DeleteIt seems Stephen is in his element with his new female companions.
ReplyDeleteHe's not shy about sharing the love!
DeleteI have been reading your posts for almost a year and I have to say I'm completely fascinated. Love your world. You seem to be so content. Anyway I just wanted to finally say hi. Cheers
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Lesley! I am dying to visit Newfoundland. My hubby worked there quite a bit when we lived in NS, but I never made it to the Rock. It's on my list!
Deletenice picture with nice cation you have added into it.. Lost and found
ReplyDeleteYou are a modern day Noah! I love your farm and one day...I may just have to come up for a visit, XOXO
ReplyDeleteWell you would be very welcome. Especially if you bring baking! :)
DeleteSo entertaining. I wonder how long it will be before you build a year-round, fully winterized, multi-level Quail Quad.
ReplyDeleteQuail Quad, I love that!! I will get Gordon on it. :) ALthough they're not suffering too much... the garage is heated!
