Fun in the snow!

Our godson Ben, his parents, and their four dogs came for a lovely visit yesterday!

It was -15C, much better than the -34C it reached the other night! We bundled up and snowshoed back to the woodlot.

Ben was all cozy in his sled.

There are the menfolk, Patrick and Gordon.  The snow doesn't look all that deep, until...

...you accidentally break through the icy crust and are in up to your (manly) knee!

The dogs had a blast.

Jack the German Shepherd loves fetching his frisbee.

Not quite the Shackleton expedition!

Maman pulls her son across the frozen tundra!

Gordon pulled for a while too.

Ben and I hung out in the woodlot. His cheeks were the colour of my coat!

Mittens, schmittens. We're Canadian!

Gordon has a very warm parka.

And a selfie with Patrick growing out of our heads!

Bïa the Border Collie in front, with Jack and one of the Nova Scotia Duck Tollers behind.

I do love me a winter a sky.

And the fearless little boy (who turns two this month!) prepares to venture off into the wilds.

No worries, we caught up with him before the coyotes could snatch him away! ;)

He liked getting a lift from Marie-Emmanuelle!

Snow dog!

Gordon decided not to tromp across the frozen river.

Tree down in a recent storm.

And some poor wild turkey...

...fell victim to a coyote. Feathers everywhere! And we followed the drag trail into the trees.

Marie-Emmanuelle does an excellent turkey imitation.

The poor bird didn't even get to digest its corn supper before the coyote digested IT! Nature can be cruel, but there is no shortage of turkeys around here.

After the outing, Ben had fun sitting on the tractor inside the barn!

(FYI we did not steal that stop sign!! It was in the barn when we got here.)

And then we all went down to Bourdeau's, our favourite local "greasy spoon" and had a lovely meal together.

Maybe not such a great day for that poor turkey, but an excellent one for us!

  2. Ben is growing like a weed!
Trying to walk/snow shoe on the snow ice mix should be an Olympic event!

    1. Isn't he though? We are going to his 2nd birthday party this weekend!

I feel guilty about the STOP sign, even though I didn't steal it. The former owner used to be the local fire chief, so I suspect he didn't steal it either. :)

    3. Do you have extra snowshoes if I visit you on the farm?

    4. Not at the moment BUT we have been talking about getting two extra pairs for visitors, so we may have them by FEb! :)

  6. My brother-in-law tried to pull a tail feather from a turkey as it crossed our porch. The turkey would have pulled him down the steps had he not let go; fortunate as he was in a cast at the time for a broken leg.

    1. Brave guy! Those turkeys can be fierce. I'm impressed the coyotes manage to catch them.

  7. Great fun in the snow. More people should try this. This is one of the first years that I've lived here when there's been enough snow to bother snowshoeing.

    1. I never snowshoed until we lived here. I just LOVE it! I use those several times a week in winter. Just makes it so easy to go anywhere on the farm in winter.

  10. You look like you really had a good time, but I am not sure about those -15C.... We are having +15C at the moment and I even took the trash out in short sleeves... I would probably need 2 parkas like Gordon has :)
