I had a great little outing with the dogs yesterday afternoon. Beautiful skies and light!
I have to say, this new iPhone of mine really has great photo quality!
I love the light in the late afternoon at this time of year.
Here comes Tristan, plodding along. The temps have been above freezing now for several days, but there's still lots of snow left, which shows you just how much we had. Now the temps are dropping and we're supposed to have another deep freeze next week.
Two of my beehives are the black blob just to the left of centre. That hill is a lot steeper than you'd think. I scream when I cross-country ski down it!
Just love those skies!
The dogs helped me check on the bees.
All six of my hives are still alive and buzzing! But they still have a few months to go before spring.
Sophie saw something interesting!
And Tristan took a break in the sumacs near the hives.
She's a good girl about sitting and staying for a photo, but...
...it's a struggle! "Please release me! Please!"
Then I tried some selfies with the dogs.
Tristan washed my face.
That green jacket is over ten years old and is my winter barn coat. It has lasted amazingly well. I have Bag Balm stains on the front from when I treat the chickens' legs for mites!
Impossible to get them both in the pic yesterday. They were too squirmy!
Poor Sophie, trying so hard to be patient.
And the pair of them, barely able to contain themselves as I made them "stay" for another pic. As soon as I said okay, they rushed me and gave me kisses!
Then Tristan wandered off to check out the property line.
What amazing skies! Can you see Sophie just towards the lower left?
Here she comes!
She looks like a deer in this one!
I liked the way the ice in the culvert stayed frozen during the thaw. The water level dropped and left that sheet of ice in there!
Not too much growing right now!
But the ducks enjoyed the sunshine yesterday afternoon.
And today, the pets got a box of (mostly dog) toys in the mail!
Grandma gave me some money for them for Christmas, so I got them a nice selection of goodies (and some new cat claw clippers!)
Tristan liked the pink elephant.
Sophie loved the tug toy with squeaker. Very durable!
And Warren the duck and I did a felfie!
Have a great weekend! It's Gordon's birthday Sunday so I will be busy tending to his every need all day. :)
Hurrah for happy healthy bees! Come on, Spring.
ReplyDeleteIt'll be a few more months before the dandelions blooms! I start to feel like they've made it through the winter then (only to face a whole new set of issues!)
DeleteFabulous.
ReplyDelete(Poor cold bees)
Thanks Andrew!
DeleteIt amazes me how those little bees survive, especially when it's down below -30C!
Blue skies and great cloud formations. A great day to be out. Interesting that the bees are squirmy on day like this.
ReplyDeleteTHere were a few days last week when they were zipping out on cleansing flights! It's neat to see them out, even if it's just for a quick "potty break."
DeleteA nice tour of the property. I enjoyed seeing the winter bees. And the mares' tails.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! I didn't know those cloud formations were called mares' tails. I thought you were talking about some of the weeds poking through the snow, so I Googled it. Learned something new! :)
DeleteThose distant shots of the house (and huge sky) would make a wonderful Christmas card for 2014.
ReplyDeleteGood idea!!
DeleteBeautiful skies. And I love that last pic!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Gordon.
I will pass along the birthday greetings!
DeleteHappy Birthday, Gordon. Hope you have a good one. Love the pics, Nat.
ReplyDeleteI gave him your best wishes! :)
DeleteEvery picture is stunning. I've looked again and again. I've also been partial at times in my life to pink elephants.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Everyone needs a pink elephant! Glad you liked the pics. :)
DeleteYour beautiful photos reconcile me with winter. It is so gray and icy in Toronto. I had forgotten that winter can also smile. Merci!
ReplyDeleteI really do think winter is prettier (and more tolerable) in the countryside! :)
DeleteLove the pics. Tristan reminds me so much of our old Labrador!
ReplyDeleteWe are finally getting some relief from the cold here too and our first blue sky in a long time.
It's nice to see the sun! It felt really warm on Friday. :)
DeleteLooks like you were able to get the dog nose prints off your lens. It is amazing how intense the blue is in winter. The bees are awesome!
ReplyDeleteA lot of people think of winter as dreary, but the light is gorgeous at times and the colours so intense!
DeleteI'm right with you with those pictures. My iphone takes terrible pictures, even after its update. I'm jealous of yours.
ReplyDeleteI ugraded from a 4S to a 5S because the battery was so terrible on my old phone. I notice quite an improvement with the camera! Handy on days I don't feel like carrying my beautiful Nikon digital SLR. :)
DeleteWhat beautiful skies. And doggies!
ReplyDeleteThe funny thing is, I didn't notice those cool cloud patterns until I looked at the photos! I think I was too busy looking at what was under the sky.
DeleteI keep track of your weather every day on the weather channel as we like to see what it is doing at our son's house south of Winchester. He has to drive into Ottawa to work most days.
ReplyDeleteI feel for him! Gordon did that for over four years and it was tough in bad weather! SOunds like we're in for another cold snap next week.
DeleteDelightful post. I feel as though I've walked those fields with you - without the cold and snow!
ReplyDeleteTHank you Marty! Glad you could enjoy it from the comfort of your own cozy home! :)
DeleteBeautiful pictures. I am glad the bees are doing well. Your area seems to often have beautiful skies. Happy Birthday to Gordon.
ReplyDeleteWow, wish you could send some of that moisture filled snow down here! Happy Birthday wishes to Gordon!
ReplyDeleteI love your blue skies...it's what I find the most appealing here in Carolina! Happy Birthday, Gordon. Enjoy your special day, XOXO
ReplyDeleteI love the sky, I miss those wide views living in the city, great shots.
ReplyDeleteLove your dogs and animals. Now the muscovy Warren is beautiful.
