My Dad would have been 83 today. He left us back in 1992. Hard to believe it has been 21 years.
Here we are on my graduation day at University of Toronto in 1987, where I got my Bachelor of Music. Love those vintage cars in the background.
God help me. I'm so old, I'm vintage.
I suspect this is terribly politically incorrect, but it still cracks me up...
Christmas Day 1983 or thereabouts! Dad always made me laugh. I suspect this photo has been on my blog before!
And as a young man in the RAF in 1957. This was taken in my grandfather's backyard in Purley, Surrey.
I raise a pint to my Dad. I drink Guinness or Kilkenny Cream Ale, but he liked that Labatt Blue crapola! I still can't believe a good Irish lad like him would drink that watery excuse for beer. :)
Happy birthday, Jim!
Very handsome fellow with a bit of a twinkle in his eyes. I bet he was quite the character. My dad drank Labatt's, too. These anniversaries leave us very melancholy and our minds fill with the most vivid of memories. Not being a beer drinker I will raise my tea-cup to your dad today. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteOh he was such a character, and quite the jokester and storyteller. I really mis his stories.
DeleteHe did love his Marks & Soencer extra-strong teabags, so raising a cuppa is perfect! He used to leave the bag in his mug while he drank it. :)
On a day like this the Unspeakable may be forgiven. :)
ReplyDeleteRaising a pint of plain on your Dad's birthday and on your well-being, Knatolee. Sláinte!
Thank you Sean!
DeleteHahahahahaha Your Dad is doing Tommy Cooper...'just like that'.
ReplyDeleteJane x
Oh my, probsbly his inspiration!
DeleteMaybe like my dad, a handsome Irish lad trying to shake the association. So, we drink the good stuff to their memory.
ReplyDeleteSounds JUST like your Dad! He grew up in London, in an Irish ghetto. He came to Canada to reinvent himself.
DeleteHappy birthday to your Dad! cheers!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pasha!
DeleteEmotional
ReplyDeleteToo true. I think of his birthday in a happy way, but also with sadness because I miss him, and he went too soon, just a few days before his birthday.
DeleteYou look a fair bit like your dad, don't you? He died very young.
ReplyDeleteI think I do, Alain! :) Yes, he was just 61. Unfortunately he continued to smoke after his first heart attack and bypass surgeypry at age 47, and it took its toll. I miss him!
DeleteI think we can see where you get your sense of humour from!
ReplyDeleteBirthdays always bring back the memories. It's a good time to think about the people who are gone.
ReplyDeleteYour dad looks like a real fun-loving guy. And, there's just something about a man in uniform! Rrrowr!
ReplyDeleteYes, your Dad was much too young to go. In the last few years, after the bypass, they started to do, and redo angiograms and angioplasties if needed. It reopens the arteries that are closing down again. I am at my 3rd one. And it works very well.
ReplyDeleteSuch an handsome man. To your Dad, and to you, Natalie. Santé!
Awww, what a sweet way to remember your dad. He looks like he was so much fun! :)
ReplyDeleteYou're a good daughter - he'd be so proud many times over.
ReplyDeleteWonderful memories. They live in our hearts.
ReplyDeleteHugs
A lovely tribute to your Dad. I especially love the photograph of the two of you together :-)
ReplyDeleteAwww, you are a good daughter to raise a pint for your dad.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful tribute!
ReplyDeleteVery nice. And btw vintage is good in wine and people...;)
ReplyDeleteMy Dad died that same year....he was 70 and I thought that way too young. Still miss him so very much and I see you do too. Wonderful memories though.
