Well, HELLO!
Somebody was VERY interested in my camera lens yesterday!
And everybody had a big adventure...
"I wonder what's out there?"
"I'm going over. Are you coming?"
"Mama, mama! What's THAT THING?"
"It's a lowly chicken, dear. The underclass. Just come back over here."
"Mama! More ducks like you!"
"Yes, dears, that's Twitchy and Ronna. Why are you all circling around Ronna like she's your mother?"
"Mama! Mama! Is this big guy going to eat me?"
"No, dear, that's just Moishe checking you out."
"Mama, mama! Ronna is poking me!"
"I'm going to poke her right back!"
"Duckling, what IS that on your chest?!"
"A mud puddle! A mud puddle! I found a mud puddle!"
"Wheeeeeeeeee!"
"I got a little muddy too!"
"I don't mind if the lady touches my beak."
"We like it out here! Do we have to go back to our nursery?"
"Yes you do but you can have a nice swim there!"
"Mmm! Tastes like chicken, Mama!"
"I'm already a big boy! I wonder if my grey tail feathers came from old Warren? I wish I knew who my Daddy is."
"Me, I just love swimming!"
splish splash splish splash
"Yep, it's me again. I'm a big boy!"
gnaw gnaw gnaw gnaw
"Clean-up on aisle three!"
Meanwhile, Emma hates me and has taught her children to fear me...
But they're all pretty cute!
Hope that satisfied your duckling needs for today.
Why would a chicken get an attitude? Shy from the beginning, or was she startled? I know fright is easily transferred; I wonder how it begins.
ReplyDeleteActually, she's not so bad, she's just always been kind of wild. She came from a place where she was running around free and is very wary and smart. She's very protective of her babies! She can't seem to understand why I want to cuddle them all the time. ;)
DeleteHa, now I can fall into the feathers ...smilingly.
ReplyDeleteThese are great photos. They always look like they are smiling. Deb
ReplyDeleteWhen did they get so big?!
ReplyDeleteJane x
I agree! All of a sudden, they're twice their size! Photo DSC_4441.JPG is incredible! You captured the depression of the water as her little head bobbed beneath the waves! Way to go!
DeleteI've always found Muscovey's to be the friendliest ducks. These are so cute, but looks like they're heading into that pinfeather stage - no more sweet, fluffy babies - sigh - but sweet juveniles.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you; I find them so friendly and good-natured! Just so cute and entertaining to have around.
DeleteThanks for the duck pics... and the chicks too! All are adorable.
ReplyDeleteSo ... much ... cuteness ... CUTECUTECUTECUTECUTE!
ReplyDeleteI know! IT's so distracting!!
Deletethose ducklings are getting so big so fast! The onw thinking he's a "big boy" is our favorite :)
ReplyDeleteand the chicks are the cutest little things!!!!
I have a suspicion now that there's only one boy, and it's not him, oops! My mistake! But we'll see... I should be able to tell soon!
DeleteNow check with your editor and put this out as a picture book. You can do a second one with the chickens. You tell a good story about your ducks.
ReplyDeleteRight after I finish the bee book! :)))
DeleteMmmmmmhh, you are tempting me more and more to get out my old frying pan.:-)
ReplyDeleteWILLIE!!!!!!!
DeleteAww they are so sweet.
ReplyDeleteWasn't there a day when all seven ducklings could fit in that water bowl??
Yeah, I think it was about two weeks ago!
DeleteWell, that simply left me wanting more. Your photos are, as always, exceptional. But that first is priceless!!!
ReplyDelete...uh, you should right a book about your ducks...just saying! XOXO
ReplyDeleteI have a backlog of books to write. Working on a bee one! :) Maybe ducks next? Any agents out there, ha ha?
DeleteAwwww too cute! What a fun adventure for them. Funny caption with chickens being the underclass. Made me laugh! I hope Emma's kids warm up to you. I'm trying to get my chicks hatched by a broody to warm up to me as well. Their mom Ellie kind of hates me (like your Emma haha) so it's making it hard!
ReplyDeleteShe's VERY protective!!
DeleteI love that top photo :-) :-)
ReplyDeleteAren't they endearing?
DeleteLove the photos! I especially like that profile head shot and the first one. They grow up so fast.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Waaaay too fast! sniff, sniff
DeleteWell, that just made my day!
ReplyDeleteThe ducklings are glad they could help! :)
DeleteLovely captions. Like that very first picture.
ReplyDeleteThank you Haddock!
DeleteThat first shot is fabulous. With all that cute to watch, how do you get anything else done?
ReplyDeleteIt's not easy!
DeleteWhat exceptional photos! Loved every bit of this post.
ReplyDeleteThank you Maureen!
