Guess where we were this weekend?
Hint: we were also there for Carnaval in February!
Yep. Québec City! We were there to celebrate our 20th anniversary, which is today. We ended up taking a calèche ride with the same driver (and his dog Winston!) that we had in February. It was a lot warmer this time around.
We had some truly amazing meals, thanks to the recommendations of my bloggy friend An Anglo in Québec, who coincidentally is currently visiting Tadoussac, where Gordon and I got engaged while watching whales from the beach in 1992! Check out the great photos on her blog.
We had a delicious brunch on Monday at Le Clocher Penché:
The restaurant is in an old bank, and is full of charm. Excellent food and coffee and chocolat chaud. The toilets are in the former bank vault!
Yep, 20 years ago today, we got hitched at Knox College Chapel at the University of Toronto campus...
Audrey and Lisa, my two oldest friends who are always there when I need them. I've been friends with Audrey since 1977, and Lisa since 1980. My Mum made all our dresses.
I love how everyone is looking at the camera but us! I wonder what we were saying to each other. I can't remember! Probably "What? What? I can't hear you over the bagpiper!!"
Us with Gordon's parents.
This photo always cracks us up. We all knew it was corny when we had it taken, but it was just so funny, stepping into that shaft of light in the chapel. It felt like a photo shoot for some inspiration book or something! :)
And yes, I have beaten my parents' record. They split up after 19 years of marriage. I am proud to have made it to the milestone of 20, and I hope we have at least 50 years more!
Happy anniversary to my favourite person on earth! Yes, that's you, Gordon.
More Québec shots to come....
Happy Anniversary! That is a milestone; we'll celebrate 45 in September and like you, I wouldn't trade him for anything. I can see from your photos that you just knew you were meant to be together forever. And, I love the photo in the sunlit chapel! XOXO
ReplyDeleteThank you Susan! :) ANd 45 is fabulous!!
DeleteA very happy anniversary, quite the milestone. I love the wedding pictures!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how I got to be so old, ha ha..
DeleteI cannot wait to see more of your photos. I am so glad you had a great weekend here in Québec city. We are back from your engagement village,Tadoussac, which I must say is waiting for your return. Not much has changed so you will definitely have a chance to relive some great memories.
ReplyDeleteSo glad it all worked out for you. Thank you for the mention, how sweet. Merci!
I think we'll come back for more in the fall. :) I don't mind missing out the crazy summer tourist season; I like hanging around the farm at this time of year anyway.
DeleteLooking forward to going back to Tadoussac. Also looking forward to trying out more of your restaurant recommendations on our next Q. C. trip! Thank you! :))
Absolute gorgeous, you two. And still are, after all these years. Once again, happy anniversary.
ReplyDeleteI was so excited when I guess Rio! (Then you went and gave away the answer and it turned out I was wrong.)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 20 years; I also wish you at least 50 more. You were and still are a beauty. I had no idea you could do glamorous!
Your photos and memories made me smile!
Now RIO would have been fun!!!
DeleteThanks Mitchell. I clean up pretty well when I try, ha ha. I sorely need a manicure though...
I LOVE your dress, and even the brides maids dresses are beautiful! You were a beautiful bride. Your smile is and was the same. Looks like you never stopped smiling. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you Monika. My Mum was a very talented dressmaker, I must say. :)
DeleteHoly cow, if I had known you back then I'd have snatched you away and carried you off on a bus like Dustin Hoffman did in "The Graduate."
ReplyDeleteOh, now THAT'S a compliment!! Thank you!! :)))
DeleteHappy Anniversary to you both.
ReplyDeleteI love the wedding pics :-)
Thank you very much!
DeleteCongratulations! Here's to many, many more!
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed we haven't killed each other yet! :)
DeleteWhy would I come to think of following Lichtenberg quote?
ReplyDeleteThe "second sight" possessed by the Highlanders in Scotland is actually a foreknowledge of future events. I believe they possess this gift because they don't wear trousers.
:)
All the best to you.
The photos: a delight.
Oh thank you Sean! :) Hmmm, Gordon hasn't worn a kilt again since our wedding day!
DeleteCongratulations on the millstone Gordon (ooops, I mean milestone).
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on holding on to him Knatolee :)
I find that chaining one of his feet to the floor helps. And black magic.
DeleteWell, happy anniversary! Awesome wedding photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you Red!
DeleteMy first observation is that you both (very sensibly) wore traditional wedding attire; such photos never age. I always feel sorry for grooms who wore flares, or wide lapeled suits; they look so dated after so little time.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your 20th, I'd put my money on another 20 at least.
Oh, it's amazing how dated some photos look!! At least kilts are timeless, and my dress wasn't too Princess Di-esque or anything like that!!
DeleteAnother 20 would be great! Thank you!!
Congratulations on staying in love for 20 yrs! It's certainly something to celebrate. You were sure a pretty bride!
ReplyDeleteThank you Maureen! I remember when our 25th anniversary seemed soooo far away. Not now!!!
DeleteHappy Anniversary! Wishing you many, many more. Lovely Photos!
ReplyDeleteThank you Callie! :)
DeleteWowser....you both scrub up real good!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, guys!

Alas, today I am covered in dirt... I have a wedding to attend in June. I'll try to get the dirt out from under my fingernails by then, ha ha! :)
DeleteThanks Jane!
Great pictures.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations both. Jx
Many thanks!
DeleteBeautiful pictures!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marilla!
DeleteHappy anniversary!!! Those were very nice pictures!
ReplyDeleteThank you! It was a really good day.
DeleteHappy Anniversary! Here's to many, many more celebrations!
