January Thaw

After all that snow we got, now we're having the traditional January thaw! Ottawa has 73 cm of snow on the ground, so it will be interesting to hear how that melt-off goes. We've had great sheets of snow sliding off the barn roof all day. This happens most Januaries, then the temps drop again and it's back to normal winter.

I took some more bird photos yesterday. When I got up, the trees were all coated in ice and it was so pretty! And here is Mr. Handsome...

I can't get enough of the Northern Cardinals!

This isn't a bird...

...but he's still cute. Red squirrel.

The beauty of nature never ceases to amaze me.

And I spied on the Bluejays through my kitchen window!

Peek-a-boo, I see you!

I've had a hectic week. I promise to catch up on reading your blogs soon. Hope tomorrow is a happy Friday for you!

  7. Bluejays always look so beautiful against the snow. The cardinals are handsome, too but in a more comical way. And those pesky squirrels that steal so much birdseed, they are just so darn cute. Great photos, as always.

Few things are more stunning than a male cardinal on white snow. Beautiful photos as usual.

  10. I used to love seeing cardinals in our gardens in Connecticut (the state bird, if I remember correctly). Breathtaking visions in the snow. But I sure don't miss the weather needed to have cardinals! Your photos are spectacular, especially the close-up of the cardinal.

  11. Hey Natalie that Northern Cardinal in it's beautiful red coat is just stunning against the snowy background and I love the Bluejay too.......
Are these birds seasonal or around all year?
I love a cheeky squirrel too, looks pretty jolly cold in your neck of the woods. We're heading towards 40c/104f tomorrow, happy to share some of that heat with you....
