For all those people who talk about creepy people and bad things on the internet, I give you this....
The other week, I got a surprise package in the mail, and it contained this wonderful bee beret, made by the wonderful Valerie over at Wandering Cat Studio.
We've never met but we are both Ontarians, both knitters, and we enjoy each other's blogs. As well, I've ordered quite a few skeins of the excellent hand-dyed yarn sold in the Etsy shop she and her Mom run, Wandering Cat Yarns. I highly recommend it!
Valerie saw this hat on Ravelry and decided to make it for me. I was so touched when I opened the surprise parcel and found this. I'll always treasure it. Things like this restore my faith in humanity.
It looks great on my badass beehive!
Can you tell how much I love this? And it fits my extra-large noggin! Valerie must have been psychic when she knit this. It's so comfy.
I could attach a veil and wear it for cold-weather beekeeping!
Valerie's knitting is beautiful. I only wish I could knit so evenly.
Really lovely colourwork!
Thank you so much, Valerie. I'm glad there are awesome people like you out there. I'm so lucky!
Here's Valerie's post on the hat (and apologies to her for my taking so long to post about this myself. I wanted to get Gordon to take photos of me, but we weren't managing it, so I took them myself today!)
It's one of those things that are almost too good to wear.
ReplyDeleteIt's true! I should frame it!
DeleteDoes this mean you have a bee in your bonnet?
ReplyDeleteJane xx
Apparently I do know, hee hee!
DeleteWhat a perfect pattern for you! An unexpected bonus in blogging is the wonderful friends you make all over the world --- and some in your very own province! ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteI know! Amazing isn't it? :)
DeleteEven I can appreciate that hat! Generosity between bloggers is very reassuring.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it though? I've met some great people through blogging.
DeleteWhat a beautiful hat and a wonderful blogfriend.
ReplyDeleteHugs
I feel blessed!
DeleteI don't think I would look good in that hat, but you sure do.
ReplyDeleteWHy thank you! :))
DeleteVery cool and entirely appropriate chapeau. What a lovely blogfriend surprise!
ReplyDeleteIt sure my made my day, week and month!
Delete:)
ReplyDeleteVery fetching! I wandered over to Valerie's blog and was astonished to read that she not only knitted a multicolor hat but dyed the yarn herself. Amazing! Such a treasure.

She's a talent, that one!
DeleteI want one for playing golf in. Golf attire needs a new trend in outlandishness (and my bare head needs some covering).
ReplyDeleteYou'd be toasty warm AND stylish!
DeleteThe colors and design are beautiful and unusual, and it looks great on you. However, I have no hat envy! I can only imagine what I would look like in that hat (I don't have much of a hat head, myself. And I'm deathly allergic to bees (and have had a couple of close calls), so would probably have a heart-ache just at the thought of those artistically placed buggers on my head. (I couldn't even look at one of your blog posts!)
ReplyDeleteI will check out Valerie's post about the hat. My mother was a serious knitter and did exceptional work. She only does baby clothes and sweaters now (which are still amazing) because her 85-year-old hands find it too difficult. Valerie's work is incredible!
Oh dear, there are rather a lot of bee posts here! Just close your eyes and move along. :)
DeleteValerie's knitting is SO neat and even. I could never get mine to look so nice. And boy, is she fast. Project after project!
I'd love to see your mother's knitting. I bet it's exquisite. I'm glad she can still do some knitting, even with her arthritis.
What great colour work! And thanks or the link to her etsy shop, I'm always looking for more local hand dyed yarns
ReplyDeleteTHey ship really fast and I love their yarn! :)
