Emily's snip-snip...

Remember this?

Why it seems like only last week that Emily was in heat.

Well, I guess it WAS only last week!

Julius rises above it all, and no, he's not supposed to be on the table. But then, the bee-jacket isn't supposed to be hanging over the back of the chair, either.

Even Sophie the dog took an interest in Emily's "come-hither" rump display.

Alas, no more "cat in heat" shenanigans. Today Emily got spayed...

...and being Emily, they had to put a Buster collar on her because she immediately had a go at her incision. I am going to try to get her one of those soft fabric collars as an alternative.

Baby had a hard day. She was shaking so I covered her up with a towel and my bathrobe, and she fell asleep. Glad that's over!

It was a sad scene when we arrived at the vets' office. There was a car pulled up near the door and one of the vets was treating a dog in the backseat. It looked like some kind of emergency situation. When we came back out, the owner was crying and the vet and vet techs were putting the dog's blanket-wrapped body on a stretcher to take inside. I don't know what happened, but the dog didn't make it. I'm glad all our pets are okay tonight.

I'm sure Emily will be back to normal very soon! The other cats are treating her like she's a space alien.

  1. That is a sad looking Emily but tomorrow is another day. She'll probably milk this for all its' worth. I hate those Victorian collars. The soft one is a bit better.

    1. I ordered a soft one which should be here shortly. Emily just jumped up and went off in search of something. :)

  2. Wow - they kept Addie overnight when she was spayed. She had one of the soft collars, but only because she wriggled out of the hard one and took out her stitches. We had to take her back in to get staples and the flexi-collar. She looked Elizabethan in it.

What a sad, sad story about the dog. :(

    1. Uh oh, I hope Emily doesn't try do-it-yourself suture removal!!! She certainly doesn't think much of the cone of shame.

I was tearing up in the parking lot over the dog. So sad.

  5. She has stopped shaking and is having a good long nap with me on our bed. :) When she was upset, I lay down with her on my chest and covered her with a blanket until she fell asleep. Poor little thing. She did have a good meal tonight! I hope she'll feel much better tomorrow.

I felt so sad for the dog people. I could really feel their pain. They just looked like they'd tried so hard to save their dog. :(

  6. So sorry to hear about the puppy that didn't make it.
    That sucks.

Glad Emily made it through okay - but I think the whole "poor kitten me" thing is an act... she's milking it!

  8. I lost my dog years ago in Houston, Texas. It was so painful. Still can't speak much about it.

Dear Emily, life can be so tough at times. But you're a brave, smart little cat. You knocked at the right door in winter. You'll be back on your happy legs in no time at all.Be well, sweet angel!

  9. Sad thing with animals and vets is that you can't explain why you're doing what you're doing, it must stretch their trust in us.

My sister's dog, Pipsqueak, that we lost a while ago was one exception. She seemed to know what the vet was for and that he had to do what he had to do. I've seen her walk in to the surgery and away without a backward glance at us (but she was also not shy about walking out once treatment was over)!

  10. Poor Emily but that needed to be done. No kittens for you. Hope you are feeling better by now Emily.
That is sad about that dog at the vets. That is the bad thing about going to the vet is all the sad stuff.
I had a dog that loved the vets. She would go in and jump over the counter and run to see everyone. Take care.

    God bless you doggie.
Emily has indeed knocked on the door of a loving home...and we get to benefit from her...er...personality through Natalie's words & pictures! Which never cease to crack me up!

Emily looks so sweet and innocent while she's sleeping. Nothing like the brazen hussy she was a few days ago. ; )

Losing a dog ... one of the worst things in the world.

    1. Some cats like to pull out their own stitches! The collar prevents that. :)
