The old man gets some air time

Talk to the paw!

Julius is our senior kitty these days. He turns 12 this year. He showed up at our back door one winter in Nova Scotia in 2000 and never left.

When he's hungry, he stands in front of my computer monitor and/or sprawls across my desk with his feet or butt on my keyboard. Lately, after feedings, he has been testing out a perch on the Xerox printer!

He does have the most wonderfully fluffy paws. Back when he was in indoor/outdoor cat, he used to sport a magnificent thick coat in winter.

He still looks pretty darn handsome!

He fits in well with my art and photos. I love that little painting by John Sims. It's a scene from Apple Hill, the village near our farm.

Meanwhile, the junior member of the feline faction has ZERO FEAR of the dogs. Sophie (right) growls at her a lot, but it's all hot air. Sophie growls at all the cats except Alex (she LOVES Alex) and it's just talk. She never tries to bite or hurt them. It's more like a bitchy mama-dog growl. She acts like she's putting the cats in their places, but really she defers to all the cats. She's particularly scared of Julius, who finds the dogs disgusting and isn't afraid to let them know it.

Meanwhile, Emily scoped out the food dishes to see if there were any leftovers! We feed the cats on this thing we call the "kitty credenza." If we fed them on the floor, the dogs would steal their food.

Sigh.... she is growing up so fast. We've had Emily for four weeks now!

"Hey, I know she's cute but don't forget ME!"

I won't, Julius. But I think you know this one is going to be boss of the household. She's cute but full of catitude!

Happy weekend, everyone.

  1. I love the picture of your little cat just hanging out with the dogs. :p Emily reminds me a lot of our Wendy Kitty when she was a baby.

We have two cats, and our dogs don't trust them. Although, our little pommie is very obsessed with one of them. She doesn't trust Wendy, yet she's always trying to get her to play. (Bad idea, and it's never gonna happen. Lol!)

  3. Oh Julius, you are really one handsome boy. We love your fluffy furs. Emily, you are one cutey patooty. Our little Mahoney backs the dogs right down. The older dog is afraid of Mahoney the kitten. It is hysterical. Great pictures. Hope all of you have a great week end.

  4. Love the photos of the cats and dogs! They all look so content... lucky them! Morgan loves to lay on our stairs and sleep. I think she would like having some cats around to watch.

Julius is a very handsome old man. Somehow is expression of condescending entitlement is endearing! I don't think I could get away with that ...

    1. And his lone fang just makes it all that much more disdainful! I couldn't get away with it either.

  8. When I saw this post title I thought it was going to be about Gordon! (no offence Gordon)

Do all your cats arrive on a cold Winter's night?

    1. Haha, that's okay, that's what I thought when I typed it in!

Let's see, Julius showed up in the middle of winter at night. Naomi showed up at night at the end of September (it was warm enough that my bedroom window was open.) Smart girl, didn't wait for winter! ANd of course Emily picked the coldest darkest time of all.

  9. Cats really pick us, don't they. We have a kitty food credenza and a litter box credenza to deter the house dogs from places they needn't be.

    1. They really do, don't they? We are helpless in the face of it all.
We have our litterboxes in the basement and a hook and eye to keep the door open just enough so the cats can go down but not the "tootsie-roll" loving dogs!

    1. OH, truer words were never spoken: cats have staff!!! Julius is definitely the boss, although both he and Alex will let the girls steal their food right out from under them if we don't keep an eye on them!
