Lobster Season

One of my "vintage" (c. 1999) creations, added to my Etsy shop.  It was inspired by photos I took at Peggy's Cove back when I was living in Nova Scotia, although it's definitely not Peggy's lighthouse!

The back. My binding techniques have gotten somewhat more aesthetically pleasing during the past 12 years!

Here's the real Peggy's Cove, 2003 (the year we moved across the country to British Columbia.)

Beautiful no? And most amazing, I managed not to get any tourists in the shot! We used to live about 20 minutes from here.

  1. Natalie, that is an amazing piece! I love it! It actually reminds me of the fishing villages on the East Neuk of Fife just a few miles from me here. Really cute with the boats and colourful houses. That photo of the light house is perfect too! Your point about not getting tourists in the shot reminds me of trying to get a photo of the standing stones at Callanish on the Isle of Lewis without a bright kagouled tourist in the background! lol

    That is GORGEOUS!!!

Had no idea you were oozing that much talent! I knew you were an artist, but didn't realize you were a needlework artist, too. The netting. . . OMG!

  4. It's funny - my mom was born in Nova Scotia (moved to Ont when she was about 5) and spent pretty much every summer there. Somewhere I have a large scallop shell and on the inside, she painted a picture of Peggy's Cove. When I started dating Dave, he had a picture on his wall that his Grandfather had taken - I looked at him and said "That's Peggy's Cove" He looked at me with a total look of astonishment and said "how did you know"
For both my brother and I Peggy's Cove has always been a special place - though niether of us had ever been - just seen the shell and pictures (and heard mom talk about it). This year when Ron got married, he and his new bride drove to Nova Scotia... just so they could take a pic at Peggy's Cove!

I've been eyeing the rug you have in the shop of the lighthouses - when I have enough $$ if it's till around, I'd like to buy it for my Grandparents (who are both from Nova Scotia!)

  5. Thanks, all! Aileen, when I see pictures of the coasts of Ireland and Scotland, it does remind me of NS at times. But then, it is just the other side of the same North Atlantic. :)

    I Googled Callanish --beautiful!!

  6. Little Blue Mouse, Peggy's Cove is covered in tourists in summer. I used to like going in February. It was brutally cold and damp and windy, but EMPTY. :) Very dramatic sea and sky.

  7. Marylee, if you want to see all the rugs I've done to date (well, I need to update my site, so some are missing), go to:

  8. Wandering Cat, you must go to NS! I thought I was going to die when we had to move away from there. I LOVED living on the ocean, but I am where I am supposed to be now. :)

Don't worry about the rug being snapped up. They seem to take time to sell. Not everyone gets how much work goes into them, although I did sell my most expensive rug ever on Etsy. It was one of my favourites so I was very pleased.
