Quebec aquarium

Before we left Quebec City last weekend, we visited the aquarium. We had a nice time. Some of it is a little tired around the edges, and the polar bears looked bored, but they had GREAT jellyfish tanks and beautiful sea dragons. It was definitely worth the visit.

Now is this not one of the most magical creatures you have ever seen?

The Leafy Sea Dragon. It was feeding time! Those little white things are krill or something like that. The Sea Dragon was chowing down. What a fantastic creature!

And I forget what type of fish this guy was...

..but he and his starfish friend made me laugh.

And look at this lovely thing...

And these...

The various jellyfish tanks had lights that changed colour. Very ethereal and lovely!

The seals were fun too...

And Monsieur Walrus made us laugh!

There were lots of tropical fish...

...but my favourites were the Sea Dragons!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  2. You don't need much interest in an aquarium to get sucked right into what you see. You gave us an excellent tour around the aquarium.

  3. Isn't that Leafy Sea Dragon just amazing...will have to find out more about them. I did a market once and a friend who makes stained glass panels to hang on walls had made one of these sea dragons using expensive glass and silver soldering stuff....it took hours as the cutting and soldering etc. was so involved. Anyhoo, as she raced up the street with an armful of her wares, guess what slipped and fell on the ground? She was not impressed, but lesson learnt, wrap things well and don't rush......
Love the jellyfish in the coloured light......so many wonderful creatures.
Up at 4am this morning to put the boys on the plane for Toronto.....they're just waiting in Sydney for their flight.

    Have a great weekend,

    Claire and the cat!!

  4. If you ever have the chance, visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California. :) You'd have lots of fun there I think. I go back every chance I get, and yes, one of my favorite things to view is the Seahorse/Sea Dragon/Pipefish exhibit.

  5. They say the sea is cold, but the sea contains the hottest blood of all ...

Is this still the dawning of the age of Aquarius?

I think I dated that walrus once, but only for a couple of years.

  7. I love aquariums too...so calming and when we travel we always take in the gardens and the aquariums of the city we're visiting. Lovely photos of such mysterious life that lives in the sea, XOXO

  10. Wonderful sea dragon. I remember the first time I saw a sea horse. They are so delicate, I could have watched it for hours.

  11. I am just now catching up on all your posts. I am at the other end of the country on my own little holiday so I missed all this Québec action!! Quelle drag....I would have love to play host to both of you while you were in my home city!! I could have taken you to where the locals hang out and all that. Looks like you had a good time and the weather was reasonable.
There has been a big push in the last few years to downplay the "booze" aspect as so many kids were coming from Ontario and getting extremely drunk and dangerous. Of course Québec does have much slacker laws around alcohol so it is still an obvious factor. And, hot tubs are very popular here in the winter. Many people have them outside their homes for a nice dip after a cold winter day outside.
    Glad you had fun!!
